Piper Lennon is pacing back and forth in an isolated area of the arena, frantically shifting back and forth while fiddling with the signature Polaroid camera hanging from around her neck.
Piper Lennon: Malcolm Drake.
She lets that statement hang in the air for a moment.
Piper Lennon: Now this, this should be fun. That might come as a surprise to some people. Like, last you saw me and him in the same place I was part of that crew trying to slow down the suicide mission him and ol' Bondo were on. Like a couple of kamikaze pilots crashing into each other, man.
Piper runs her hands into each other and makes an exaggerated explosion sound.
Piper Lennon: But I dug it, the way he just wouldn’t be stopped. Not that it’s surprising, he’s always been a bit of a free spirit, moving to the beat of his own drum. Not that we’re birds of a feather or anything, but you know, I pride myself on that too. So I’m not upset, or looking for revenge because him and Bond flung me away like a rag doll.
She waves her arm through the air violently.
Piper Lennon: Nah, it just sort of piqued the interest, whet the appetite as to what could happen if I met one of those forces head on-- so props to B-Mac for putting it together. Because I don’t think their whole grudge there is really about each other. They might think it is, but I really see two aging warriors begging for someone to put them down, and you know having that mutual interest kinda putting themselves in a mutually beneficial situation. It’s like a nature documentary or something, where you see the animal go to attack someone or put themselves in a situation that’s gonna get them killed-- and just a mirror fight there.
At this point she’s gesticulating with her hands to aid with the story she’s telling.
Piper Lennon: So given what the end game is and that their personal beef isn’t really personal, I know he’s gonna throw himself at me like he would anyone, violently and recklessly, seeing if I’m the one who can finish him off.
She lets out a light, almost giddy giggle.
Piper Lennon: Just thinking of the type of danger he’s going to put me in, trying to see if he can draw that kill shot out? It’s thrilling, gives goosebumps, that’s what living life’s all about. Like, it’s like I’m getting to experience everything that goes with … climbing Everest or something, right here in the Toyota Center.
A deep breath.
Piper Lennon: I’ve got a good feeling, this feels like everything’s lined up here to create something special. Everything happens for a reason; I crossed paths with Drake, the Rockets got knocked out of the playoffs to make sure there’d be no potential scheduling conflicts with this arena, you can’t tell me something magical isn’t destined to happen. And when it does ... I’ll be ready to capture that moment.
She wraps her Polaroid with her knuckles, then disappears around a corner out of sight.
