(c) Chris Madison vs. Sydney Christensen
J.A. Aldridge: The following contest is your main event of the evening and it is for the FGA PRIDE CHAMPIONSHIP!
The thud of a low chime rings out, and the beginning of “Sirens” by Elephante ring through the arena. The lights in the arena dip as the crowd voices their extreme approval of one Fujiko Mine. The lights bump in time with the beat, bathing the crowd in alternating pale purple and gold lights.
Why came disaster, I see your face
Under the laughter you store away
Come down, come down, come out and play
Biting the nails of catastrophe
When didn't your sails come and dance with me
Come down, come down, we're lost at seaAt the top of one of the crowd entrances, one Fujiko Mine appears. She is in a heather grey DOPE shirt and a pair of jean leggings. The camera focuses on her as she looks out at the fans surrounding her. The nearest fans wave to catch her attention; Fujiko slaps some hands as she makes her way through the crowd and down to the ring.
All I want is perfect timing
All I got was silver lining
I can't stop, these tides from rising
So I'm coming back for you
Coming back for you-OH!The breakdown of the song kicks in, and the lights dance along with them. Fujiko reaches the ringside area, and climbs over the guardrail. She holds something, which the camera comes in to find is a bottle of Fiji water. The label has been altered so that the word “Fiji” has been changed to “Fuji”.
J.A. Aldridge: Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome… Fujiko Mine!
She comes around the ring and sits at the 3rd chair at the announce desk, and places the headphones on.
Kris Cruise: Thank you for joining us, Fujiko.
Fujiko Mine: It’s my pleasure, Kris.
She then slams the bottle of “Fuji Water” down, right in front of Stephy.
Fujiko Mine: Had to bring this, as it’s my
favorite. I know how much of a fan Stephy is, so I didn’t want to deny her the chance to say anything she wanted to say. Anything you wanted to say, Stephy?
Stephy Auger: ....
Fujiko Mine: Aww. I was looking forward to your insightful commentary.
Stephy Auger: *Grumble grumble*
Kris Cruise: Fujiko, Any preference on who you’d like to face?
Fujiko Mine: I know the answer I should be giving is “Anyone and everyone.” And to a point that is certainly true. But I want to see how I matchup against Mr. Madison. He’s one of the rare people on the FGA roster who have won a championship twice. I obviously want to join that company. But I’m sure that he realized his mistake the first time around, and will be that much tougher to beat in any defenses going forward.
The sound of a guitar strumming subtly begins to echo in the arena, leaving those in attendance wondering what is going on. The angelic voice of one Lzzy Hale of the band Halestorm is heard next, her voice serenely starting the opening verse of “I Am The Fire.”
Am I brave enough?
Am I strong enough?
To follow the desire
That burns from within
To push away my fear
To stand where I'm afraid
I am through with this
'Cause I am more than this
I promise to myself
Alone and no one else
My flame is rising higher.
As the song picks up the tempo, her voice becomes more intense, kicking into the chorus.
I am the fire
I am burning brighter
Roaring like a storm
Midway through the chorus, the curtains part and out walks the pride of Calgary herself, Sydney Christensen. She steps out to the middle of the stage and juts her arms out on either side of her, tossing her head back as the fans show their appreciation. She picks her head up and slowly brings her arms in front of her, her index fingers pointing down to the ring. Dropping her arms to her side, she begins her march towards the ring, nodding at a few fans along the way.
J.A. Aldridge: Introducing first, the challenger! From San Diego, California, by way of Calgary, Alberta, Canada! She is “The Calgary Flame” SYYYYYYDNEEEEYYYYY CHRISSSSSSSTEENNNNNSENNNNNN!!!
Once she reaches the ring, she hops up onto the apron and steps through the bottom and middle ropes. Almost immediately, Sydney walks over to the ropes and raises her arms above her head, encouraging the fans as they cheer on the proud Canadian. Sydney then walks over to one corner of the ring and rests her back against the turnbuckle, awaiting her opponent as her music fades out on one poignant line of the chorus.
Kris Cruise: Sydney Christensen defeated Chris Madison for the WCS International Champion last month, then successfully defended the title against him again! That makes her 2-0 against him, Stephy.
Stephy Auger: Boy, someone knows how to do math! That’s great. But guess what? This is Pride Rules that we’re talking about here! We’re not just talking about one fall. This match could go all three falls! Does Sydney Christensen have what it takes to get the job done? To quote our GREAT President: I don’t think she has the stamina!
Kris Cruise: ...
And I am the one I've been waiting for
Screaming like a siren
Alive and burning brighter
I am the fire!
The arena's lights dim to black as the opening guitar riffs to "War Machine" by KISS begin to screech over the P.A. system. The video screen lights up with visual static noise. Suddenly in the center of the screen a black handprint begins pulsating to the beat of the drum that has began to play. A spotlight shines on the entrance ramp and we see Chris Madison standing with his head bowed under a black towel, wearing an official FGA licensed t-shirt that says, "Always Ready For War," across the chest. He nods his head to the music and as the chorus breaks he rips the towel from his head and tosses it into the live audience, starting his way down the ramp toward, the ring.
Better watch out 'cause I'm a war machine
Better watch out 'cause I'm a war machine
Madison makes it to the base of the steps and places one foot down before scoping out the fans directly behind him by peering over his shoulder.
J.A. Aldridge: And her opponent, from Long Island, New York! Weighing in at 220 pounds! He is the reigning….defending… FGA Pride Champion! He is “Mayhem” CHRIIIIIIISSSSSS MAAAAADIIISSOOOONNNNN!!!
He smirks as the live audience sings along to the entrance music and then marches up the steps and climbs through the ropes. He immediately leaps up onto the middle rope and faces out towards the crowd. He brings his fists up to his face and punches his jaw with each hand before shooting his arms out horizontally with his hands wide open, welcoming whatever challenge is coming his way. Madison hops backwards, bouncing off of his feet and turns towards the center of the ring, snarling and ready to go…
Kris Cruise: Very few competitors can say that they’ve defeated Chris Madison on multiple occasions. But Sydney Christensen can! Not only does that have to eat away at Madison, but it’s got to put doubt in his mind. Can he defeat Christensen?
Stephy Auger: Can he? Of course he can! He’s a two-time Pride Champion! He knows the ins and the outs of these matches and how the use the rules to his advantage. Christensen has beaten him twice and that’s good. Real good. But not under this type of match and that’s where Madison holds the advantage.
The match starts with Madison and Christensen shaking hands to cheers and applause from the crowd. Both competitors take several steps back before circling the ring. They go to head towards the center of the ring and lock up when they stop to take notice of the chants from the crowd.
LET’S GO, SYYYYYD!
LET’S GO, MAYHEM!
LET’S GO, SYYYYYD!!
LET’S GO, MAYHEM!!
LET’S GO, SYYYYYD!!!
LET’S GO, MAYHEM!!!
Kris Cruise: Listen to this capacity crowd, Stephy!
Stephy Auger: I’d rather not...
Both champion and challenger acknowledge the crowd before heading towards the center of the ring and locking up. After jockeying for position in the collar-and-elbow, Madison uses his strength advantage to move Christensen across the ring and into the turnbuckles. The ref heads over and gives them both until a count of five to break it up.
Ref: ONE… TWO… THREE… FOUR…
Both grapplers make a clean break.
Kris Cruise: Fujiko, any potential strategy in a Pride Rules match with these two?
Fujiko Mine: Sydney is clearly the faster and more agile of the two. She fits more of my style, so she’s easier to scout. A match between her and I would be a risk versus reward war of attrition. But Madison? That power and technical prowess? A match between him and I would be an out and out chess match. He’d do his best to keep my momentum low, and keep me from using my kicking power. I’d be doing my best to burn him out cardio wise.
Madison walks back towards the center of the ring and waits for his challenger. Christensen slowly makes her way out of the corner before circling the ring. She then inches her way over towards Madison before locking up. After jockeying for position, Madison begins to move Christensen across the ring. At the last second, Christensen pivots and presses Madison up against the ropes. The ref quickly goes over and gives them until a count of five to break it up.
Ref: ONE… TWO… THREE… FOUR…
Both grapplers make a clean break. Christensen heads back to the center of the ring and waits for the champion. Madison then slowly makes his way off the ropes before circling the ring. Once he’s ready, he makes his way back over to Christensen and locks up. Christensen quickly ducks down, grabs one of Madison’s leg and yanks him down to the canvas with a single leg takedown. She then goes to follow up with a figure four, but Madison reverses into a small package.

Christensen kicks out.
After both grapplers scramble back to a vertical base, Christensen gains the advantage with a side headlock. She then tosses Madison down to the canvas with a side headlock takeover. Madison reaches up and is able to reverse into a headscissors. The hold doesn’t stay on for long as Christensen is able to escape with a kip up. After Madison turns over and tries to scramble back to his feet, Christensen locks him in a front facelock. Madison groans as Christensen tries her best to cinch in the hold. The ref asks him if he wants to give up. But the champ refuses. After grabbing a hold of Christensen’s wrists, Madison is able to pry himself fee before reversing into an arm wrench. The ref checks in with the challenger. After Christensen refuses to give up, she rolls forward, leans back, kips up and reverses into an arm wrench of her own before transitioning into a hammerlock from behind. The ref checks in with the champ and asks if she wants to give up. But again, Madison refuses. He then leans forward before reversing into a hammerlock of his own. Christensen reaches down to try and pull one of Madison’s legs out from under him. But she’s unable to. She then nails Madison with an elbow to the face before performing a standing switch and bringing Madison down to the mat with a modified drop toe hold. After hopping across Madison’s back, Christensen applies a grounded side headlock. The ref gets down in front of Madison and asks the champ if he wants to give up. But once again, Mayhem refuses. He slowly begins to battle back to a vertical base. Once he’s back to his feet, he shoves Christensen off of him and into the ropes. When Christensen returns, she slides through Madison’s legs. When Madison turns around, the crowd cheers when Christensen knocks him off with feet with a dropkick. After connecting with another dropkick, Christensen takes Madison and whips him into the ropes. When Madison returns, Christensen brings him down with an arm drag and transitions into an arm bar.
Kris Cruise: Christensen’s staying right on the champ! Madison is known for his submission holds. But Sydney Christensen is quite the technician!
Stephy Auger: I still say she’s playing with fire. She might be a good hand. But at the end of the day, Madison’s ring experience dwarfs hers. He knows what he’s doing in there. She’s still figuring it out. By staying on the mat and playing the submission game, she’s just playing right into Madison’s hands.
The ref asks Madison if he wants to give up. But once again, Madison refuses. He gets back to his feet before using his free arm to move Christensen across the ring. After moving her into the ropes, he shoves her off into the far ropes. When Madison returns, he throws out a running yakuza kick. But Christensen’s able to roll underneath it. When Madison turns around, Christensen throws out a third dropkick. This time, Madison side steps and swats her down. As Christensen gets up, Madison dives down and pins her with an Oklahoma Roll.

After both grapplers scramble back to a vertical base, Madison throws Christensen down to the canvas with a side headlock takeover. Christensen reaches up and reverses into a headscissors. Madison tries to give up. But Christensen keeps her legs locked tight around his neck. Madison then goes for another kip up. But it’s to no avail. After shifting around on the canvas, he slowly turns over onto his knees. After pressing down on Christensen’s legs, Madison slowly slips his head out before knocking her down with a front dropkick to the face. He makes the cover.

Madison runs across the ring to attack. But he gets knocked back by a back elbow to the face. Madison runs back into the corner. This time, Christensen knocks him back with a boot to the face. After shaking off the blow, Madison runs into the corner for a third time. This time, Christensen hoists herself up onto the middle ropes, grabs Madison and plants him with a Tornado DDT. The cheers continue as she makes the cover.

Fujiko Mine: That could have been it, and I wouldn’t have been surprised. Both Sydney and Chris are amazing athletes. Now, mind you...they’re not as amazing as me.
Stephy Auger: Uh oh? Is that some sass I hear? Maybe you’re not so bad after all, Fuji Water!
Christensen picks up Madison and places him in a side headlock. Madison tries to shove her off of him. But she doesn’t budge. So he gives her three shots to the midsection before trying to shove her off. But again, Christensen keeps the hold clamped on. Madison then grabs her and lifts her up for a belly to back suplex. But Christensen rolls over his shoulder, lands on her feet, turns him around and slaps on another side headlock. Madison then wraps his arms around her, moves her back into the near ropes, runs and goes to shove her off into the far ropes. But Christensen counters into a running bulldog. She turns Madison over and makes the cover.

Christensen picks up Madison and places him in another side headlock. After delivering several shots to the midsection, Madison slips out, reverses into a hammerlock, then spins Christensen towards him and doubles her over with a knee to the midsection. Madison positions Christensen for a double underhook suplex when Christensen breaks free of the underhooks, brings him to the mat with a double leg takedown and goes to turn him over into a Boston Crab. The crowd cheers as Madison tries to fight back with all his might. Christensen’s almost got him turned over when Madison quickly turns his hips, sending Christensen flipping down to the canvas. After both grapplers scramble back to a vertical base, Madison slaps on a side headlock. Christensen then reaches down, bends his leg, lifts him up and delivers a shinbreaker. While Madison hobbles on one leg, Christensen takes him off his feet with a leg sweep before locking on the Precision Ender (Hizajujigatame).
Kris Cruise: Christensen’s got a submission applied!
Stephy Auger: That isn’t good news for Madison! If he was smart, he’d tap right here and save himself from further damage.
Madison howls in pain as Christensen really locks in the hold. The ref gets down and asks Madison if she wants to give up. When the champ refuses, Christensen pulls back, increasing the pressure.
Kris Cruise: Madison’s trying to hang on, but everyone has their limit. Will Madison reach his here tonight?
Frankie Morrison can be seen slapping the canvas as he tries to will on his client. A closeup shot shows Madison gritting his teeth as he tries to fight through the pain. The ref asks him again if he wants to give up. But the champ refuses. He then begins to scoot himself towards the side of the ring. The crowd cheers when Madison reaches back and grabs the bottom rope. Christensen releases the hold.
Kris Cruise: That’s one rope break down for Madison. He’s only got two left.
Stephy Auger: Use ‘em wisely...
Christensen picks up Madison, moves him into the corner and lights up his chest with a series of knife edge chops. She then takes Madison and goes for an irish whip. But Madison reverses, sending her crashing into the opposite corner. After trying to shake out the pain in his leg, Madison runs across the ring and throws out a corner yakuza kick. But Christensen catches his foot. The crowd cheers as she turns and pulls Madison out of the corner. Madison continues to hop up and down on one foot until Christensen brings him down with a dragon screw legwhip. Christensen gets back to her feet, lifts up Madison’s leg and hooks her arm around it. She’s about to turn him over into a single leg crab when Madison uses his free leg to repeatedly kick Christensen in the chest. He then nails her with a front kick to the face, knocking her down. While Christensen shakes out the cobwebs, Madison turns over on all fours. Right after he gets back to his feet, Christensen goes over and tries to bring him back to the mat with a single leg takedown. But Madison is able to sprawl before transitioning into a standing guillotine choke. Madison tries to cinch in the hold. But Christensen is able to pick him up, runs across the ring and ram him back-first into the corner. Christensen follows up with a series of shoulder thrusts until Madison counters one of the shoulder thrusts with a standing guillotine.
Stephy Auger: She got caught!
Madison cinches in the hold and tries to choke Christensen out. Christensen does her best to try and pull Madison’s arm around her neck. But it’s to no avail, so she grabs the middle rope, forcing a rope break.
Ref: ONE… TWO… THREE…
As soon as Madison lets go, Christensen brings him down to the mat with a double leg takedown. She drags Madison towards the center of the ring, crosses his legs and goes to turn him over in a cloverleaf when Madison reaches up and catches her with a pointed elbow strike to the top of the head before transitioning into a gogoplata.
Kris Cruise: Madison with the smooth transition!
Stephy Auger: He still has to get the submission, Cruise! This thing isn’t won on style points!

But before Madison can deliver the move, Christensen nails him with pointed elbow strikes to the top of the head. She then slips down from behind, turns Madison towards her and throws out a discus clothesline. But Madison counters by clobbering her with a bicycle knee strike to the head. After Christensen drops down to a knee, Madison quickly places her in a front facelock. He then forces Christensen down to the mat, places his right leg over her neck and pulls back.
Kris Cruise: Peruvian Necktie!
Stephy Auger: Oh, she’s in trouble now!
The ref gets down and asks Christensen if she wants to give up. She tries to fight her way out out of the submission. But she ultimately taps out on his thigh. The crowd cheers as the ref calls for the bell.

Kris Cruise: Chris Madison takes the first fall! The pressure is now all on the champion! She MUST win these next to falls by pin or submission if she wants to walk out of here as the new champion.
Stephy Auger: We’re gonna see what Sydney Christensen is made of right here.
Once the bell sounds to start the second fall, Madison runs over and flattens Christensen with another yakuza kick. The cheers continue as he brings her back to her feet before whipping her into the ropes. When Christensen returns, Madison goes for a Lou Thesz Press. But Christensen counters with a flapjack. The bell sounds as Christensen rushes over and connects with a front dropkick, sending Madison flying into the turnbuckles. Christensen then rushes over, hops onto Madison and goes for another monkey flip out of the corner. This time, Madison catches her, switches positions in the corner and sits her down on the top turnbuckle before connecting with a yakuza kick to the chest, sending Christensen over the top rope. Christensen hangs upside down as she flails her arms.
Kris Cruise: Christensen’s legs are trapped, Stephy!
Stephy Auger: It looks like she’s caught in a Tree of Woe somewhat, instead she’s outside the ring.
Madison begins to climb up to the top turnbuckle. As Christensen sits up to try and free herself, Madison connects with a diving double foot stomp to the chest, knocking Christensen down off the ropes. Christensen bounces off the apron before crumbling to the mat.

Christensen picks up Madison and goes for an irish whip. But Madison reverses, sending her to the corner. He rushes over to attack. But Christensen hoists herself onto the middle ropes before tackling him down with a diving Lou Thesz Press. Christensen mounts herself on top of Madison and rains down elbow smashes to the face. She brings Madison back to his feet and is about to pick up for The Remedy (Michinoku Driver) when Madison blocks with several elbows to the neck. He then turns Christensen around and places her in a sleeper hold. The crowd cheers upon seeing Christensen locked in the submission. The ref goes over and asks Christensen if she wants to give up. As soon as she refuses, the Madison transitions into a Sleeper Suplex. Madison rolls out onto the apron before pulling himself up using the ropes. As he scales to the top turnbuckle, he sees Christensen pushing herself up on all fours. So Madison leaps off and flattens her with a diving double foot stomp to the back. Madison reaches down, pulls Christensen up from behind, applies a waist lock and moves her into the ropes. After Christensen bounces off the ropes, the crowd cheers when Madison delivers a backwards roll into a bridging German Suplex.
