Neal Durden & Lowri Moss vs. Shootcamp
Neal Durden & Lowri Moss vs. Shootcamp
Melanie Sierra: The following contest is a quarterfinals match for the Dynamic Duos Tournament!
"Whirring" by The Joy Formidable plays over the PA system, and once the song's intro finishes, through the curtains - and out onto the stage - walks Lowri Moss, who is greeted by a cheer. Lowri takes a moment to scan the crowd, before making her way towards the ring, and as she does so, she slaps the hands of some of the fans that reach out to her. After arriving at ringside, Lowri climbs the steps up onto the ring apron.
Melanie Sierra: Introducing fir--
Lowri Moss is suddenly yanked from the apron and thrown violently into the steel steps!
Geoff Penzer: Oh no! It’s AMIRA!
Boos resonate throughout the Sun National Bank Center as the wide-eyed AMIRA watches as Lowri groggily gets to her feet, and nails a Chop Block from behind! Lowri’s knee buckles and she cries out in pain. AMIRA runs a hand back through her hair, seething, before pulling the steel steps away from the ring.
Geoff Penzer: AMIRA is beside herself tonight! We saw it with Luke Jackson and Susan Kent but Lowri Moss was always the target! What is she doing?!
AMIRA places Lowri’s right leg in between the steel steps and takes a step back. The ref in the ring rolls to the outside, screaming for her not to do it… but AMIRA rushes forward, kicking the steps! Lowri’s leg smashes into the ring post and she yells out in agony! AMIRA backs up and goes to do it a second time, but the referee physically shoves her back, preventing it! AMIRA struggles with the official until “School” by Nirvana hits the PA system.
Geoff Penzer: And here comes Neal Durden, Lowri’s tag team partner!
AMIRA calmly turns and hoists herself up-and-over the barricade, making her way through the jeering audience as Neal Durden races from the back, sprinting down the ramp with a look of concern. He looks in the direction AMIRA departed through the crowd and shakes his head, muttering to himself in frustration before kneeling beside Moss.
Geoff Penzer: I feel for Neal Durden in this situation but Lowri Moss might be really hurt.
We show a replay of AMIRA yanking Moss off of the apron and throwing her into the steps-- then we cut to the chop block and the stomp between the steps and the ring post. When we come back to ringside, Lowri has been helped to her feet by another referee. She leans against the apron, saying that she wants to continue, but the official referee for the contest shakes his head, making his way around the ring to the timekeeper’s area.
Geoff Penzer: I think the ref is about to call this match off!
A ”LOWRI!” chant surfaces throughout the arena as Lowri looks on, worried. Neal says something to her, motioning for her to go, before he walks off after the referee.
Geoff Penzer: Ladies and gentlemen, from what I can overhear, the referee is declaring Shootcamp the winners by forfeit because Lowri Moss is unable to start this match. But here comes her tag team partner!
Though not every word can be picked up, we hear Neal say that he’ll “take the match by himself.” The referee looks at him with a look that reflects surprise. He confirms that Neal is certain he wants to do it… before nodding to the timekeeper and Melanie Sierra, reentering the ring.
Melanie Sierra: Ladies and gentlemen, according to our official, this match will still take place at the request of Neal Durden!
The second referee continues to assist Lowri Moss to the back, though she shoots a look of concern over her shoulder at her partner.
Geoff Penzer: Bold decision by Neal. But I won’t call it a wise one.
Lowri stops in front of the curtain as “Horseshoes and Handgrenades” begins to play. The marching beat in the intro plays throughout the arena as immediately the crowd in attendance clap along to the beat, the front row smack the guardrail along to the beat as well. As soon as the song kicks in at about 15 seconds, Ace Watson and "Indestructible" Owen Gonsalves burst out from behind the curtain. Both men immediately go to opposite ends of the stage and engage with the crowd, hyped for their upcoming match as Lowri is finally escorted to the back. The crowd wait in anticipation and as the first line of the song hits, they chant it out along with Owen and Ace:
"I'M NOT FUCKING AROUND"
The hype behind the chanting of the first lyric in the song connects with Shootcamp as they shake hands like true gentlemen before making their way down to the ring, singing along with the song. They both climb onto the apron before bursting up onto the turnbuckles to another ovation from the crowd before the hop into the ring. They meet in the middle as Owen falls into a cross legged seated position and does a gun gesture with his hand as Ace stands behind him and does a shotgun gesture. The song fades out as they move to a corner.
Melanie Sierra: And their opponents, at a combined weight of four hundred and twenty-seven pounds, the team of Ace Watson and Owen Gonsalves… SHOOOOOTCAAAAAMP!
Neal looks across the ring at his opponents uneasily, but shakes his limbs out in his corner, loosening himself up for the warmup. Ace Watson starts things off for his team, kneeling a bit in his corner as the ref calls for the bell.
Geoff Penzer: And there’s the bell!
Watson rushes across the ring at full-speed, smashing into Durden with a European Uppercut that sends him violently into the corner! The audience roars at the initial connection!
Geoff Penzer: Ace Watson wasting no time firing the opening shot! No concern for the lonely Neal Durden! Shootcamp doesn’t have time for sympathy!
Watson rushes to his own corner, allowing Gonsalves to tag himself in! Durden struggles to his feet in the far corner but Owen rushes across, hitting him with a European Uppercut! Ace follows up with one of his own as Owen hits the ropes and rebounds for another as Watson exits the ring! Durden falls against the ropes and Gonsalves nails a shoot kick to the gut, knocking him out to the apron. Gonsalves goes to Suplex him back in but Neal Durden fights it latching onto the ropes!
Geoff Penzer: Owen Gonsalves is looking to remain in control here but Neal Durden is holding onto the ropes for dear life!
Owen finally releases his grip and goes for an outright swing to the head, but Durden ducks under the shot and drives his shoulder into Owen’s gut between the ropes. Owen backs up and Durden launches himself over the ropes and into the ring, hitting Owen with a release Slingshot Hurricanrana to a pop from the crowd! Owen stumbles into his own corner, tagging out to Ace Watson again! Neal gets to his feet as Ace rushes in for a Clothesline, but he manages to duck underneath it! Ace turns and Neal goes for a running Clothesline of his own, but this time Ace ducks! Neal hits the ropes and comes back, looking for a Handspring Back Elbow!
Geoff Penzer: Impressive counters here on both sides, and--!
Watson catches Neal before he can fire off an elbow, holding him up in a waistlock and turning toward his corner-- where Owen leaps onto the top rope and nails a Springboard Corkscrew European Uppercut to the elevated Durden, knocking him into Ace’s bridging German Suplex!
Geoff Penzer: Sky Uppercut into the German! Beautiful!
Owen slides out of the ring as the ref makes the count!

Kickout!
Geoff Penzer: And somehow that didn’t keep Durden down.
Ace calmly stands up pulling Durden up with him-- but again, Durden fights away from him, hitting a hard right hand to the face before stumbling groggily into his own corner. Ace shakes his head, striding to the corner again, going to pull Durden out in a front facelock-- but Durden stuns him with an elbow to the side of the head! The shot rocks Ace and Durden nails a roundhouse kick! Ace staggers back to the center of the ring and Durden takes a breath before rushing forward and sweeping Ace into the Leg Trap Sunset Flip Powerbomb! The referee slides into a count!

THR--!
Watson throws the shoulder up to a sigh from many in the crowd, some in relief, some in disappointment.
Geoff Penzer: Somehow the rookie has managed to create an opening for himself in this match but he has to capitalize on it himself! He has no partner to tag after that vicious assault by AMIRA!
Neal Durden pulls himself to his feet backing into the corner and up to the second rope. As Watson reaches a vertical base, Durden leaps from the ropes and hits a Diving Knee Strike! Watson falls to a knee, but doesn’t go down! Durden shoots the ropes and rebounds, hitting a Running DDT on the Shootcamp member, drawing a look of annoyance from Owen on the apron. Durden rolls away from Ace, pulling himself up with the ropes again, yelling for Watson to “get up!” Watson stumbles upright and Durden seems to take a few moments catching his breath before running past Watson and leaping to the middle and then top rope, hitting a hands-free Springboard Moonsault, crashing down on the standing Watson! He hooks both legs, sitting on the shoulders of Watson!

Gonsalves sticks a foot through the ropes and kicks Durden in the chest, knocking him off of Watson! It earns a mixed reaction from the crowd and Durden glares up at Gonsalves, redfaced. He drags Watson away from the ropes and tries to cover him again!

Kickout!
Geoff Penzer: The athleticism of Neal Durden is on display here but he can’t take advantage of it with this numbers’ game!
Durden backs away, waiting for Watson to climb to his feet. The Welsh rookie rushes forward and dives for the leg of Ace Watson-- but Ace drops down, catching Durden with a low knee to the head instead! The audience groans at the impact of the strike and Durden rolls across the canvas, holding his head. He staggers to his feet-- only to be taken back with a Running European Uppercut! Durden doesn’t go down, but Watson hits the ropes and comes back with a running elbow strike that sends him through the ropes!
Geoff Penzer: And just like that, the tide changes! WHAT an elbow by Watson!
Durden begins to climb through the ropes from the apron but Watson stops it with a knee to the chest! He tags in Owen Gonsalves who immediately ascends to the top turnbuckle as Watson turns Durden around, suspending him over the middle rope by his legs. Owen leaps from the turnbuckle for a Frog Splash as Watson drops him with an Inverted DDT! The audience erupts with a mixed reaction and Watson rolls out of the ring while Owen hooks both legs for a cover!
Geoff Penzer: Frog Splash into the Reverse DDT! This has to be it!

Neal Durden kicks out emphatically to a holler from New Jersey! Owen Gonsalves looks legitimately surprised, consulting with the referee, who reaffirms the two count!
Geoff Penzer: A kickout with authority-- as they say-- and Shootcamp look absolutely stunned!
Owen pushes Neal onto his back and turns, hitting a Standing Moonsault to the spine! Owen then pushes Neal onto his stomach and rises, delivering a Standing Moonsault Double Knee Drop to his gut! The audience remains at a fever pitch and Owen hooks the far leg, grapevining the near one!

THR--!
Neal kicks out with authority again, knocking Owen clear off of him and the audience erupts!
Geoff Penzer: Another kickout after a Standing Moonsault and then a Malicious Moonsault! The heart of Neal Durden!
Owen looks up toward Ace with a bitter smirk. Watson shakes his head, gripping the tag rope, watching intently. Owen’s face grows cross and he pulls Neal’s arm behind his head, beginning to twist his fingers in an unnatural position. Neal Durden screams out in agony, rolling onto his back. Owen drives the point of his knee into Neal’s bicep, still pulling on his fingers. The ref counts Neal’s shoulders down.

Neal rolls the shoulder up, but Owen throws his hand against the mat and jumps up, stomping on it! Neal cries out in agony, sitting up, but Owen grabs his wrist again, controlling the wrist lock as they reach their feet. Neal winces in pain, trying to push Owen off, but Owen stomps the mat as he wrenches the arm and then grabs a hold of Neal’s wrist, wrenching it for the Jim Breaks Special! Neal is forced to the center of the ring-- and Owen leaps up for a jumping knee strike, flipping Durden onto his stomach from the impact!
Geoff Penzer: WOW! Neal Durden has to be out after that! But Owen isn’t even going for the cover! He knows the resilience of the rookie! He wants to make sure he’’s down for good!
Owen tags in Ace Watson and the audience pops-- but soon the pop becomes a roar! Ace rushes forward and takes the rising Neal Durden down with a European Uppercut, but turns, realizing the pop wasn’t all for him.
Geoff Penzer: What is she doing back out here?!
The audience erupts as Lowri Moss limps back down the ramp, making direct eye contact with Ace Watson as she does. Ace looks at Lowri in confusion, eyes following her as she limps her way toward her tag corner, climbing the steps and standing on the apron. A ”LOWRI!” chant surfaces among those in the crowd.
Geoff Penzer: Much like myself, much like these fans, Ace Watson has no idea what to make of this! Lowri Moss can’t possibly think this is a good idea, going against Shootcamp on one leg.
Ace shakes his head a bit at Lowri and turns to the rising Neal Durden. Ace shoots the ropes and comes back, looking for the modified Scissors Kick, but Neal Durden stands upright, avoiding it! He plants one foot and drives Ace to the mat with a hook kick to the chin!
Geoff Penzer: Ace Watson was looking for Face Value but Durden avoids disaster! And now both Grapplers are crawling for their corners! What kind of condition must Lowri be in though?!
Ace Watson reaches up, making the tag first to a pop from the crowd… but the Sun National Bank Center roars as Neal Durden stands up and dives, making the first tag to Lowri Moss!
Geoff Penzer: Looks like we’re gonna find out!
Lowri enters the ring as Owen charges the ring at her for a European Uppercut… but Lowri rolls past Owen, forcing him to run into the turnbuckles! Clutching his sternum, Owen takes a step back, immediately finding himself hoisted up and driven down with the Blue Thunder Bomb!
Geoff Penzer: Blue Thunder Bomb on one wheel!
Owen clutches the back of his head as he rises to his feet but Lowri follows up with a German Suplex! She clutches her knee, wincing in pain but waits one more time for Owen to pull himself up. Owen backs into Lowri-- who nails him with a Tiger Suplex to a roar from the crowd! Again, Lowri holds her knee, but pulls herself up, eyes locked on Gonsalves.
Geoff Penzer: Lowri Moss is absolutely destroying Owen Gonsalves right now!
Owen sits upright and Lowri hobbles a bit as she shoots the ropes, but comes back with a Shining Wizard! Owen goes down but Lowri Moss immediately screams in pain, clutching her knee!
Geoff Penzer: Moss, understandably, wanted to put this match away quickly but she chose the wrong way to go about it! Now she’s down too and Neal Durden is in no position to help right now!
There are dueling chants for both Owen and Lowri as the Grapplers struggle to pull themselves up, using the ropes on opposite sides of the ring. Owen begins to run at Lowri again, but Lowri low-bridges the top rope! Owen instead dives, hitting Lowri anyway with a European Uppercut that sends her over the bottom rope and out to the apron! The audience grows loud for the quick-thinking of Gonsalves and he makes his way to the corner, ascending to the middle turnbuckle as he reaches out for Lowri on the apron. The ref warns Owen to get down, but Owen hooks Lowri anyway, forcing her up onto the second rope… before hoisting her up and over for a Falcon Arrow all the way to the canvas!
Geoff Penzer: MY GOD! FALCON ARROW OFF THE SECOND ROPE INTO THE RING!
The audience roars for the move and Owen hooks the injured leg, leaning into a cover!

Lowri Moss throws the shoulder up and Owen Gonsalves laughs aloud, collapsing onto his side.
Geoff Penzer: Owen’s about to lose his mind in the ring but Lowri Moss WILL NOT die! She shouldn’t even be out here!
A ”LET’S GO LOWRI!” chant audibly battles a ”LET’S GO OWEN!” chant as Owen staggers to his feet. He points at Lowri with both hands as she begins to climb to her feet… and rushes forward for the Bicycle Knee Strike-- but Lowri dodges it, pulling herself through the ropes and to the apron, forcing Owen to drive his knee into the middle turnbuckle! She grabs a hold of Owen’s head and steps onto the bottom rope before the second and swings herself into the ring, taking Gonsalves down with a Tornado DDT! Lowri clutches her leg, but rolls into a cover, lying across Gonsalves!

THRRR--!
Gonsalves throws the shoulder up and Lowri rolls to her knees breathing heavily.
Geoff Penzer: If she had hooked the leg, that might’ve ended differently!
The audience begins to clap rhythmically, though it’s unclear initially who they’re getting behind. Lowri hobbles a bit as she waits for Gonsalves to get to his feet. As he reaches a knee, Lowri turns, hitting the ropes, rebounding on the hurt leg for an offensive maneuver-- but a sprinting European Uppercut by Gonsalves sends her spiraling through the air and to the canvas! He nods toward the vocal audience and pulls Lowri up and sets her up for the double underhook… but Neal Durden rushes into the ring and leaps onto the ropes, hitting Gonsalves with a Springboard Roundhouse Kick to the back of the head!
Geoff Penzer: The save!
Gonsalves falls to his hands and knees… and Watson rushes into the ring, running at Owen and using his back as a step to leap up and nail an Enzuigiri that blasts Durden and sends him to the mat, rolling out of the ring!
Geoff Penzer: Enzuigiri with some inadvertent teamwork by Shootcamp!
Watson turns around to his partner… and Lowri Moss blasts him with a Superkick! Lowri collapses to the mat but the kick sends Watson tumbling through the ropes and to the floor!
Geoff Penzer: Breuddwydion Melus!
Owen Gonsalves groggily begins to get up as well, alongside Lowri. Lowri Moss cries out and goes for a Superkick, but Owen catches it! He sweeps Lowri’s free leg and turns her over into the Single Leg Crab!
Geoff Penzer: And a second one comes up short! Owen has the Crab locked in!
Lowri cries out in agony but Durden unsteadily pulls himself back up onto the apron in their corner. He grabs the tag rope and leans over the top, looking for Lowri’s hand! Lowri uses her elbows and forearms to crawl across the canvas, eyes locked on her partner the entire time! Owen leans back in the Single Leg Crab, using his right leg to reach back and stomp on the upper-back and neck of Lowri Moss! Lowri cries out in pain, yet she continues to crawl!
Geoff Penzer: Owen Gonsalves is absolutely ruthless in this tournament!
Lowri crawls, reaching out just inches from her partner’s hand! She pulls herself forward just a bit more, reaches up…
Geoff Penzer: And there’s the tag!
Owen doesn’t notice the tag, but Neal Durden wastes no time ascending to the top turnbuckle! Watson shouts warnings at his partner, who releases Lowri Moss and turns around as Neal leaps off of the top turnbuckle for what looks to be a Tornado DDT-- but ends up being some sort of Tornado Snap Suplex! The audience roars for the move and Owen staggers up to his feet, turning around into a Dropkick from Durden! Owen scrambles up and Durden hits a second Dropkick! Both men rise up and Durden nails a third Dropkick, sending Owen staggering back…
...into his own corner!
Geoff Penzer: Too much momentum, Neal! Too much momentum!
Ace Watson tags himself in and Durden sighs, immediately rushing him as he enters the ring-- but Owen blasts him with a European Uppercut, protecting his partner! Durden staggers back and Ace barrels into the ring, putting all of his weight behind a European Uppercut of his own, knocking Durden to the canvas! Ace quickly pulls Durden to the corner and tags in the unsteady Owen Gonsalves, pulling him into the ring! He directs Owen to do something and groggily, Owen agrees, pulling Durden into a double-underhook… and then hoisting him upside-down as Ace steps outside the ring!
Geoff Penzer: What is this?!
Ace leaps onto the top rope and comes off with a springboard, forcing his weight down behind Durden’s as Owen hits the Piledriver! Owen and Neal both collapse as the audience explodes!
Geoff Penzer: VIETNAM!
Ace pulls Owen over Neal and rushes the oncoming Moss, tackling her legs as the referee makes the count!

Geoff Penzer: What a battle in Trenton!
Melanie Sierra: Here are your winners… SHOOOOOTCAAAAMP!
Geoff Penzer: Shootcamp advances to the semifinal round! But they had to fight for it, even with the initial absence of Lowri Moss after that assault by AMIRA. Neal Durden did his damnedest but at the end of the day, Owen Gonsalves and Ace Watson put on another clinic and walk away with the victory.
Watson helps the groggy, glassy-eyed Owen to his feet, allowing him to lean on him for support until the referee raises their hands for victory. Once he’s done, Owen falls against the ropes but grins up at his partner. The cameras pan back toward Moss, however, as she pulls herself across the canvas to check on Neal Durden, who groggily begins to stir, realizing what’s happened.
Geoff Penzer: I feel for Moss and Durden here, but they were a rookie team with a lot on their plate to begin with. AMIRA came and tried to make things much more difficult but they almost put Shootcamp away. This night, this year, it just wasn’t to be.
We fade to black as Watson and Gonsalves celebrate with their fans at ringside.
