Cordy Stevenson vs. Savannah Taylor
There was silence; the lights began to fade away slowly. A soft instrumental echoes out across the audience. It starts slowly, a beautiful sound that contrasts the heaviness of the world. Like feathers, it glides among the waiting audience. The lighting fixtures produce a gentle spotlight upon the stage, offset by the occasional flash here and there. As the song continues, a woman’s words begin to come through. Her voice is tender, not raising upon a whisper.
Deceived by my eyes and all I was told I should see
Opinions not mine, the person they taught me to be
One night in the dark, a vision of someone I knew
And in the darkness I saw, a voice say, I'm you.
On the stage, a feminine figure appears. Her head lowered to everything. People cannot make out who it is. As she stands there, the flashes briefly illuminate her figure. It only gives small clues on who stands at the gate. She stands in the spotlight, her shadow cast large and proudly among the stage.
Inside me a light was turned on…
The instrumental picks up again. An electric guitar now joins the progressively exciting instrumentals of before. The singer’s voice suddenly intensifies.
Then I was alive!
In the light, it is revealed that it was Savannah Taylor. She stands at the gate, a robe of obsidian and ivory hues. The hood of it shadows her eyes, but the intensity of the final EXODUS World Champion remains clear as day. She starts off down the ramp, with a serious aura radiating from her body.
If you close your eyes your life,
A naked truth revealed
Dreams you never lived,
And scars never healed
J.A. Aldridge: The following contest is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Las Vegas, Nevada! Weighing in at 120 pounds.. SAVANNAH TAYLOR!
Savannah makes her way up the ring steps. She looks out towards the audience for a moment before entering the ring. From there, she heads for a turnbuckle. She stands there, taking in everything. She then lifts her up on top of it. She peers out in nothing, then takes off the hood with a flashy flourish. Her blonde locks fly up in the air. They descend, shaping her face as they famously do.
In the darkness, light will take you to the other side
You'll find me waiting there you'll see, if you just close your eyes
While she stands in her corner, she closes her eyes and takes a heavy breath. When her bright eyes open, Taylor is completely composed. There is nothing more than the heat of battle awaiting her. She takes off her robe, giving it to a stagehand. She stretches her wrists before devoting her mind to the war upon the horizon.
Kris Cruise: Savannah Taylor was right there in the mix in the Wildcard Lottery Tournament. But unfortunately for her, she didn’t get past the quarterfinals. That’s more or less been her story all year, Stephy.
Stephy Auger: She has come close. She has been in the mix. But a win here tonight could put her in the conversation for the next World Title challenger, if not the outright #1 contender.
The lights dim down and take on a purplish hue as a light smoky mist fills the entranceway. The opening to A$AP Ferg's "New Level" cues up.
I’m on a new level
I’m on it, I’m on it
As the beat drops, the crowd gives a loud pop as Cordelia Stevenson emerges from the mist with a bounce in her step and dancing to the music. She comes to a stop atop the walkway, glancing around and taking in the reception before giving the crowd a warm smile. She rolls her neck around before bowing her head and letting her hair fall in front of her face. A few seconds go by before she snaps her head up, whipping her hair back from in front of her face.
J.A. Aldridge: And her opponent, from Freeport, Long Island! Weighing in at 146 pounds! She is the reigning FGA World Champion… CORDY STEVENSON!
She continues on down the ramp, working from side to side with a big smile as she slaps the hands of fans along the way. She gets to the ring and hops up onto the apron, mouthing the words and bouncing to the music as she makes her way around the side, towards the middle. She turns and faces her crowd, stretching her arms out to the side and slightly tilting her head backwards as she soaks in their reaction. She gives them an appreciative nod and blows a kiss at them, before stepping into the ring and making her way over towards the opposite turnbuckle. She quickly hops up and holds her arms out, drawing a reaction from that side of the crowd as well. She unzips her hoodie and tosses it away before hopping down and making her way over to her corner as the music dies down.
Kris Cruise: The FGA World Champion is competing in her first match since winning the title a month ago. She told Savannah Taylor that she didn’t want to hear about what she “wanted” to do. She just wanted Taylor to just go out and do it.
Stephy Auger: But that may come back to bite her, Cruise. We’ll see if Cordy’s mouth gets her in trouble tonight in this one.
The match starts with both grapplers meeting in the center of the ring. Despite the respect that lies between the two, there is a palpable tension in the air as the two stare each other down. Taylor narrows her eyes as she turns and looks at the crowd, who are chanting “CORDY!!! CORDY!!! CORRDY!!! CORDY!!! CORDY!!!” in unison. Taylor slowly turns and looks back into the eyes of the FGA World Champion. Stevenson asks if Taylor is ready to do this. Taylor responds with a nod before asking the same of the FGA World Champion. Saint Sexy nods as well. The two grapples slowly take several steps back before circling the ring.
Kris Cruise: I got a feeling we might be in store for a good one, Stephy.
Stephy Auger: Yeah, it’s gonna be great when Savannah wipes that smirk off of Cordy’s face.
The two grapplers circle the ring before locking up. After jockeying for position, the two grapplers shove each other back. After stumbling back a few steps, they regain their balance and circle the ring. The two grapplers then stop to size each other up before marching towards the center of the ring for another collar & elbow tie up. After jockeying for position, Taylor moves Stevenson across the ring and into the corner. While Stevenson is being pressed up in the corner, the ref gives both grapplers until the count of five to break it up.
Ref: ONE… TWO… THREE… FOUR…
Both grapplers make a slow, clean break. Taylor then quickly raises her arm and balls up her fist. The crowd gasps as it looks like Taylor’s about to sock Stevenson. Even the FGA Champion flinches as she expects to be attack. But then taylor stops before patting Stevenson on the cheek. Taylor then steps back towards the center of the ring as Stevenson just shakes her head.
Kris Cruise: A little bit of mind games being played by the Las Vegas Siren, Stephy.
Stephy Auger: Yep! And the champ fell right for it.
The two grapplers circle the ring once more before locking up. After jockeying for position, Taylor begins to move Stevenson back across the ring. But at the last second, Stevenson pivots, switching positions with Taylor before moving her into the corner. While Taylor is being pressed against the turnbuckles, the ref scurries over and gives both grapplers until the count of five to break it up.
Ref: ONE… TWO… THREE… FOUR…
Both grapplers make a clean break as they release their grip. It’s then Stevenson that motions for a punch, causing Taylor to flinch. Just then, Stevenson stops before patting Taylor on the cheek. The crowd cheers while Stevenson smirks. But Taylor isn’t amused and quickly shoved Stevenson down to the canvas. The Boston crowd’s cheers have quickly turned into boos.
Stephy Auger: Well would you look at that?
Kris Cruise: I don’t think Taylor was at all amused. I guess she didn’t like it when the shoe was on the other foot.
Stevenson sits up on the canvas as she looks over at Taylor. Stevenson can be seen moving her index finger back and forth between her and Taylor. Stevenson can always been seen mouthing something at taylor while Taylor motions for her to bring it.
Kris Cruise: It’s getting testy in there, Stephy.
Stephy Auger: They might still respect each other, Cruise. But the pleasantries have gone out the window. There’s no more fun and games now.
After Stevenson gets back to her feet, she circles the ring with Taylor before marching over and locking up. After jockeying for position, Taylor begins to move Stevenson across the ring. But Stevenson puts on the brakes. She then takes control and begins to move Taylor back in the opposite direction. Just then, Taylor pivots, switching positions with Stevenson and pressing her against the ropes. Stevenson then rolls over and presses Taylor up against the ropes. Taylor then rolls over and presses Stevenson against the corner. Stevenson then rolls over and presses Taylor up against the ropes. The two continue to jockey for position until Stevenson shoves Taylor back. Taylor then goes over towards Stevenson and pushes her back, which results in boos from the crowd. But the boos quickly turn to cheers when Stevenson shoves her right back. Taylor then comes back over. But instead of continuing the shoving contest, she quickly locks Stevenson in a side headlock. Stevenson then goes to shove Taylor off of her. But Taylor doesn’t budge. So Stevenson grabs Taylor and moves her back into the ropes. She then heads towards the center of the ring before trying to shove Taylor off of her. But Taylor just drops to her nee while keeping the hold applied. Taylor turns to the crowd and shakes her head, telling them that Stevenson’s attempts to escape were futile. The taunting is met with boos.
The ref gets down and asks Stevenson if she wants to give up. But Stevenson refuses. After Taylor slowly gets back to a vertical base, she throws Stevenson down with a side headlock takeover. She then cinches in the hold, which causes Stevenson to groan. The ref gets back down and asks her if she wants to give up. But again, Stevenson refuses. Stevenson then reaches up and reverses into a headscissors. But Taylor is able to escape with a kip up. After Stevenson gets back to her feet, Taylor brings her back down with another side headlock takeover. But Stevenson is able to quickly reverse into a headscissors. The ref gets down and asks Taylor if she wants to give up. When Taylor refuses to quit, Stevenson releases the hold to lift up her leg… only to bring it down hard across Taylor’s neck before reapplying the headscissors. The ref checks back in on Taylor and asks if she wants to give up. When Taylor refuses, Stevenson lifts her leg up and goes to slam it down across Taylor’s throat for a second time. But this time, Taylor reaches up and grabs a hold of Stevenson’s leg. She then able to spit out and scramble back to her feet while keeping a hold of the leg. She then spins around Stevenson’s leg to go for a figure four. But Stevenson quickly reaches up and pulls her down into a small package.

Stevenson turns back over and keeps the grounded side headlock applied. The ref checks on Taylor and asks her if she wants to give up. But Taylor refuses. She then slowly reaches up and slowly pulls back on Stevenson’s hair, causing Stevenson to groan while the crowd boos. But the ref isn’t about to allow that to happen, so he reaches over and smacks Taylor’s hand off of Stevenson’s hair.
Stephy Auger: Hey, he can’t do that!
Kris Cruise: Taylor wasn’t trying to grab a handful of Stevenson’s hair, which is illegal.
Stephy Auger: Oh please, everyone knows that isn’t Cordy’s real hair, anyway.
The ref checks back in with Taylor and asks if she wants to give up. But again, Taylor refuses. She then slowly reaches her right arm up before quickly grabbing Stevenson by the hair. She then pulls Stevenson back into position to reverse into a headscissors of her own. The crowd boos as Taylor cinches in the hold.
Stephy Auger: Ha! I bet Cordy doesn’t like that!
The ref asks Stevenson if she wants to give up. When Stevenson refuses, Taylor slaps her thigh before cinching in the hold. Stevenson can be heard groaning while she’s trapped in the hold. The ref asks Stevenson if she wants to give up. Once Stevenson refuses, Taylor raises her leg… and then repeatedly slams it down across Stevenson’s neck. Taylor then reapplies the headscissors.
Kris Cruise: Both of these women were in the running for Best High Flyer. But right now, Taylor has kept the World Champ grounded and it seems to be working.
Stephy Auger: All this is doing is wearing down Cordy. The more she gets worn down, the easier it is to pick her apart. Smart move there by Taylor.
Again, the ref asks Stevenson if she wants to give up. But once again, Stevenson refuses. She then tries to escape with a kip up. But Taylor’s got her legs locked on too tight for her to escape. So Stevenson tries another kip up attempt. But again, it’s to no avail. Stevenson then begins to shifts from side to side before going for another kip up. But again, she’s denied. Saint Sexy then slowly begins to turn over onto her knees. After placing the palm of her hands on the canvas, the crowd cheers as Stevenson slowly positioned herself into a handstand. Taylor looks to be concerned about what’s going to come next. In the blink of a knee, Stevenson pushes herself out of the headscissors, lands on her feet and quickly follows up with a dropkick to the face. She then scurries over and makes the cover.

Stevenson picks up Taylor and delivers an arm wrench. The ref asks Taylor if she wants to give up. When she refuses, Stevenson delivers another arm wrench. Taylor can be seen cringing in pain. The ref checks back in with Taylor and asks her if she wants to give up. When Taylor refuses, Stevenson goes to deliver a slow arm wrench. But as Stevenson turns to face Taylor, the crowd boos when Taylor punches her right in the face with her free hand.
Stephy Auger: Right in the mush, Cruise!
Kris Cruise: That looked like a closed fist to me.
Stephy Auger: Oh stop your whining!
Taylor then quickly takes Stevenson by the wrist and returns the favor with an arm wrench of her own. In fact, it’s the same arm that Izzy Anders had previous worked over during the Semifinals of the Wildcard Lottery Tournament. After Stevenson refuses to quit, Taylor delivers a hard yank to the arm before delivering another arm wrench. The ref checks back in and asks Stevenson if she wants to give up. Stevenson responds by rolling forward, leaning back, kipping up and reversing into an arm wrench of his own. Taylor then rolls forward, turns over onto her knees, flips over with a headstand, cartwheels back over and follows up with a hard arm wrench that sends Stevenson flipping down to the canvas. She then quickly drops down with a lateral press.

Kris Cruise: Stevenson’s controlled the action for the past minute or so. But Taylor quickly snatched it back with that strike.
Taylor picks up Stevenson, moves her into the corner and nails her with a blistering knife edge chop. Taylor then taunts Stevenson before nailing her with another blistering chop. But the boos soon turn to cheers when Stevenson answers back with a chop of her own. Taylor then delivers yet another chop. But Stevenson comes right back with a chop of her own. Stevenson continues to knock Taylor back with chops from out of the corner. She then takes Taylor and whips her into the ropes. When Taylor returns, she flattens Stevenson with a yakuza kick. The crowd boos as Taylor stands over Stevenson.
Stephy Auger: Stevenson caught all of that one, Cruise!
Kris Cruise: Yes she did. Stevenson was fighting and looked to take firm control of this match. But then Taylor just ran over her with that running yakuza kick!
Taylor picks up Stevenson and nails her with a hard forearm across the jaw. Ater Stevenson shakes off the blow, Taylor cocks back and nails her with another forearm to the jaw. This one sends Stevesnon stumbles back. Taylor then marches over and blasts Stevenson with another forearm. This one sends Stevenson stumbling back into the ropes. So Taylor goes over and pummels the champion, sending Stevenson slumping down against the ropes with a flurry of forearms. The crowd boos as Taylor looks out and scans them with a look of contempt. She then turns and runs into the far ropes. When Taylor returns, she connects with a low angle yakuza kick, knocking Stevenson through the ropes and to the floor.
Kris Cruise: Stevenson just caught a barrage of forearms to the face, then another yakuza kick that sends her crashing hard to the floor.
Stephy Auger: They say when you face the World Champion, you have to raise your game. I think that’s what we’re seeing here tonight, Cruise.
A closeup shot of the apron reveals two hands clinging onto the edge of the apron. Stevenson then begins to slowly pulls herself back to her. However, the crowd boos once she’s quickly knocked back down by a baseball slide to the face.
Stephy Auger: She just got rocked, Cruise! She just got rocked!
Stevenson tried to shake out the cobwebs. But Taylor gives her little time to recover as she delivers several kicks to the ribs. Taylor then switches up the attack from kicks to the ribs to stomps to the arm, neck and head. She then reaches down, yanks Stevenson back up and slams her face-first onto the apron before shoving her back into the ring. Taylor then slides back in, drags Stevenson away from the ropes and makes the cover.

But again, Stevenson counters with a back elbow to the face. While Taylor stumbles back, Stevenson turns to face the turnbuckle and goes for the Beautiful Nightmare (springboard roundhouse kick). But as soon as Stevenson lands on the middle ropes, taylor runs over and shoves Stevenson, sending the champ tumbling over the top rope and landing hard on the floor. The crowd boos Taylor for shoving Stevenson from behind.
Kris Cruise: This crowd isn’t in love with Taylor’s tactics here tonight.
Stephy Auger: When have they ever, Cruise?
While Stevenson slowly turns over on all fours and tries to shake out the cobwebs, Taylor steps out onto the apron and can be heard yelling at her to “get up!” While Stevenson slowly gets up on a knee, Taylor begins waving her up. Once Stevenson is finally back to a vertical base and turns around, Taylor goes for an Asai Moonsault…
But Stevenson avoids it by sliding back into the ring.
Kris Cruise: Taylor missed!
Stephy Auger: … but she landed on her feet!
Taylor then tries to quickly go after Stevenson and hops back up onto the apron. But she’s quickly met with a jumping back kick, which sends Taylor back down to the floor.
Kris Cruise: Taylor got caught with the Foot Fetish!
While Taylor tries to shake out the cobwebs, Stevenson runs into the far ropes. Once Taylor returns to her feet, Stevenson leaps over the top rope and knocks her down with a suicide plancha. The crowd explodes with cheers at the athletic display!
