Not going to lie, I'm a little disappointed in some people. So I figure I'll get my disappointment of the way before I go into what I liked about the show. Been holding my tongue for a minute, but need to get it out of the way.
Where is everyone? lol.
This cycle's build for feuds has been one of the down points from the people here since I've been here. First I was upset, but realized it was because First Wave was on the same weekly time as Vertigo, so I looked past it. It got just a tad bit better, then dropped back down this week. I just don't see what's so hard about doing segments and building feuds. Sure, we do our RPs and we get what we put in for our matches, but geesh, guys. I can only point out 3-4 feuds this cycle, and the rest is up in the air to me. I get real life sometimes get in the way, especially for some of you right now, but you literally have 2 weeks to get all of that together. Hell, Jerry makes sure to get something in with the things he's going through right now and that's admirable and I didn't expect him to.
Whether it's feud hype or match hype, I'm extremely disappointed that some people have dropped the ball this cycle with their feud builds. The start of the Pride big feud was so crack. Then it fizzled and no one broke out into mini feuds from it. The PPV is for the big matches that have been building through the cycle, and so forth. Like I said, I can see a handful of feuds that were built, but the rest I have no idea what they would even be. There's no hype to them and the matches that will come out of it could come out of a regular Vertigo. There's just not going to be that intense feeling to some of them.
I dunno. I just expected more. And it's not Terr's fault, he does everything he can, including giving us amazing shows for every Vertigo. It's our faults. If you can't hype a match for the night or reach out to someone to work with, then I don't know what to tell you. I hate being "that guy" right now, but feel someone has to so that some people pull their heads out and try to do better. I like reading shows with dope ass matches and feud build. I haven't really gotten that from the members this cycle.
Enough of the negative though. Just had to get that off my chest.
I feel bad for Karma. I hope he isn't gone for an extended period of time, but that his problems push him to dig deeper IC wise. Never even seen the Fujiko title drop and leaving either. Not a fan of dropping titles and just walking away, but IC wise, I get it. Shows were better off when Karma and Fujiko had their parts on it and I'm sad if we don't see them for a bit because of family problems.
Looking forward to Chris Madison and what he can bring to the company. Read his rp and his segment and I'm liking what I see. You can tell that he has "IT" #JerichoVoice. Will be interesting to see what he can put together whenever he's split off into a feud with some good talent. I expect big things.
Evan is hilarious lol. Everyone knows this already though. He brings a different flavor to the company with the way he holds himself and it's always an interesting segment to read. You need a mix of serious and laid back characters to not make the show feel too corny at times. Mostly it's the humor segments that make people speak up, which Evans are always comical. He makes me want to see him beat the shit out of Noelle
Savannah and Magnus has always been a good read. But sometimes I think seeing Magnus in the guest roster kinda takes away from my investment. Don't get me wrong, I'm invested, but I don't see the bright side of either side winning or losing if Magnus isn't on the roster full time. Win or lose, without one person being a full time roster member, it kind of takes away for me. There's no consequences of winning or losing when a member of our roster is facing outside talent or someone that isn't staying around for more than that feud. Everyone just goes on with their lives. That's why I'm not a fan of it, but this feud has peeked my interest more than facing guests has normally done for me. I'm excited for the match because it has been built nicely, but I can't get myself to invest whether who I want to see win, because I already know in the end it doesn't matter when Savannah is sticking around and Magnus might not be.
Noelle v Cannon was pretty good. The matches picked up at this point and really got me warmed up for the next two. Going into the final series, I swayed more towards Cannon than Noelle winning. Noelle was taking it to Cannon and figured all the nearfalls were going to bite her, and alas! It did. Cannon finished strong and Noelle looked good. Good match.
Dom is consistent lmfao. I don't blame him either. Grand Slam is a hell of an honor and not one that many people get at all. I'm interested in Annie as well. I know there has been cracks and I'm waiting for it to break, but Ben keeps playing with my emotions. I see... a swerve coming though. I don't know what. I don't know when. But I feel it coming. I'll be ready for it when it happens. I hope
Now onto my favorite matches of the night. Fujiko v Molly, and Dom v Tony. If I had to choose a favorite it would be the Pride Championship match because it was decisive and had more on the line than what Tony v Dom did. Both were amazing matches though and I didn't see the ending the main event coming to place the way it did. Seems like the New Kings can have their hand in just about anything because there's depth there, but I don't see it to the point of having a team standing up against them just yet because there has been ruffles in the New Kings actually being a team with having the same goals, and those egos are going to clash even if they do stay together and stick it out. When they don't have the same goals and all get on the same page without two of them wanting the world championship? I think they'll be even more dangerous IMO. Cause then that opens them up to being in the world title scene, Pride, and tag... which is very fucking deadly if they pull it off or keep getting themselves included in matches like they did this main event.
That's my review. Still a great show as always, but I hope people step it up on segments and feud builds. This cycle hurt because of it (And I'm not talking about everyone. Some people stayed focused and did their thing. Others, not so much). Looking forward to the big matches at Retribution that did have good build and hope everyone starts off on the right foot this time to make the next PPV even bigger and better.
