“When will it end?” Nest looks down to the ground before looking straight ahead in his tree. “These pointless tag team matches that I do not like. I do not feel comfortable having to depend on someone else in order to obtain a victory. Never was I good at team sports, and coming up I’ve tried them all. Football obviously, basketball, soccer, even lacrosse. I was terrible at every single one of those sports, and it had nothing to do with my lack of athleticism…”
Nest looks down once again. “I just don’t get along with people. Now my partners are jovial, and they’re hungry. Surely teaming with me is giving them extra motivation to turn it up a notch. Mason and Becky are very nice, squeaky clean rookies who are just happy to be here and ready to show the world what they have.” The champ chuckles. “However, I question their actual work ethic. I wonder if they actually have what it takes to rise to the occasion. With all due respect to everyone in the Lion’s Den, Becky and Mason are the odd ones out in this match when it comes to proven ability. They’re where I was in the first few weeks, needing plenty of time to grown.”
He strokes his beard. “We won’t be in the ring with rookies either. Hana Song. Butcher. Prince MacRear. These are all serious fighters in this league of ours, all of whom had a crack at my title. They also aren’t on a level that the Brute Camp is, which I suppose explains why the matchmaker made this happen. I understand they’re trying to throw the fresh meat to the wolves and see what happens, but this could be dangerous if Becky and Mason don’t have what it takes. So that’s the question everyone’s asking: does Nest and the Brute Camp have what it takes to tackle such a tall order.”
The champ scoffs. “The better question is will Nest have the patience to deal with a wannabe frat boy and sorority girl enough to coexist in this match. Frankly, I’m not so sure myself. Historically, I didn’t get along with their kind during recess, in the locker rooms of any sports team or at the cafeteria. Why should the ring be any different, especially when Mason himself has slighted me in the respect department a few times?” Nest smiles. “Simple. I want to beat Song, MacRear and Butcher more than I want to swat the annoying flies looming around my head.”
Nest adjusts his title. “I respect people, but the truth is, I’m not this social butterfly that everyone in this sport expects me to be. Especially as champion, I don’t come out and speak to the fans…I have no reason to. There’s absolutely nothing to say after the bell has rung. The energy spent on cute little crowd pandering is better served at the facility. Training. Learning. Elevating.” Nest looks at his belt finally cracking a smirk. “The formula’s been working so far. But I see the consequences…my matches aren’t high profile for drama-related reasons. People are just waiting to see someone knock me out of the Nest I created…”
The champ laughs. “Most notably, Hana Song and the Princess. You two get sick to your stomachs watching me up here. Knowing that every time you’ve attempted to replace me, I’ve shot you down time after time. Luckily, I have a bone to pick with the selfie master for sneaking a win over me a few weeks ago. You’re still the only man to have done so and for that, it’d be wise for me to assume you as in line for my belt.”
Nest laughs. “After all, the multiple participant situations fit you. When you’re not depending on your own merits, it’s easy to snag a win over a team with no chemistry. A snake like Hana Song can mold her personality to work with anyone if it benefits her. I’m sure she’s banking on catching me off guard here and slithering her way back into Apex title contention status. Even Butcher, who unceremoniously fell to me some time ago, might have some pent up aggression. All three of our opponents have had their eyes set on me and what I’m holding for a while now.” Nest smirks. “You three want to make a statement on Pride, so you’ll try to take me out. But here’s your dilemma. Eliminating me and beating one of my partners proves nothing…”
“…but be careful giving me your undivided attention. I have two spitfires just dying to make names for themselves in wrestling and if they’re smart they’d know Pride is the way to start. Don’t count them out because I’m carrying them to victory. Nest Assured.”
