OFF CAMERA!
(Our scenes opens to LDFC trainee, Emily Carter. The young prospect has just completed another exciting day of training inside the LDFC facilities, where she’s recently been promoted to the Intermediate Class. But instead of heading out to her car before driving home, she decides to walk down the halls of the facility. She stops when she sees a door that reads, “Chris Bond: Head Trainer”. Emily takes a nervous gulp. She knows that the conversation she’s about to have isn’t going to be a pretty one, especially considering what she’s about to accuse someone of. But Emily knows that this conversation has to be had. The individual in question has run amok and has got unfettered for months on end. For her sake, as well as the sake of her friends, someone’s got to put their foot down and do something. Emily doesn’t want to be that person. But since no one else is going to do it, she mind as well stand up.
After letting out a slow breath, Emily reaches out and rattles off a few polite knocks on the door. Once she’s given the okay to come in, Emily turns the doorknob before slowly making her way into the room. After closing the door, she turns to see Chris Bond, who is going over next week’s training classes on his iPad. He looks over at her from his desk and acknowledges his student…)
Chris Bond: Ms. Carter! I wasn’t expecting to see you here. What do I owe the pleasure?
Emily Carter: Hi Mr. Bond! Sorry for dropping by unannounced. I hope it’s okay.
(Bond gives her a wave of the hand.)
Chris Bond: Oh, don’t worry about it. It’s fine. So, what do I owe the pleasure? Is there something you wanted to go over from today’s class?
Emily Carter: No, but I wanted to talk to you about something else. Rather, someone else. Like… The Crimson Baroness…
(Bond sighs. He knows where this conversation is about to go and honestly, he doesn’t want to hear it.)
Chris Bond: Emily...
Emily Carter: I know I’m probably out of line by saying this. I’m sorry. I really am. But I don’t think the Crimson Baroness should be defending the Carolina Cup, especially on a show like Frontier To The Future 2. This is supposed to be an event that’s showcasing the hot up and coming talent in wrestling. But with LDFC being the hosts, I feel like it's our job to set the standard. But by giving The Crimson Baroness this opportunity, it’s setting a bad precedent. I don’t even understand how she got this opportunity in the first place.
Chris Bond: Ms. Carter. I understand you have strong feelings on this and I appreciate your opinion. But don’t you think this is coming off as petty?
(Emily is taken aback. She would expect that response out of The Crimson Baroness herself. But from Chris Bond, the Head Trainer?)
Chris Bond: Are you sure that this doesn’t have anything to do with the ongoing issues between yourself and the Baroness?
Emily Carter: Absolutely not.
(Bond raises an eyebrow as he leans forward. He’s not at all sold.)
Chris Bond: Are you sure about that?
Emily Carter: Of course I’m sure!
Chris Bond: Okay, I’ll bite. If not her, then who? Do you think you’re more deserving of this opportunity than her?
Emily Carter: Actually, I don’t. I don’t think I’ve put in enough time here in LDFC to be given such an opportunity. But people like Nest, Terrence Tillman, Donnie Cross and Bree Nelson are all more deserving of that shot than her.
Think about it, Mr. Bond. If someone snuck in Nest’s locker and stole his Apex Championship, would the thief be given a shot at Nest’s championship? Absolutely not. Yet here she is, being rewarded with the chance to win a trophy that she stole. She doesn’t even hide the fact that she stole it, either. If anything, she flaunts it every chance she gets. Someone like that doesn’t deserve a shot at the Carolina Cup, let alone the opportunity to be wrestling at an event like Frontier To The Future. Oh, but I guess since she didn’t push someone down and the person she pushed didn’t overreact, she’s not going to get kicked off the show.
(Bond lets out a sigh. He knows that Emily is still upset over her debut at 2nd Impact being cancelled thanks to the Baroness’superb acting job “injury”.)
Chris Bond: Emily, I said this before and now I’ll say it to you now in person. I am sorry for what happened at 2nd Impact. I didn’t see everything that happened at the time. It was a mistake…
(Bond appears to be sincere in his apology. But Emily sucks her teeth as she folds her arms. Clearly the young upstart isn’t in the forgiving mood.)
Emily Carter: … would it have really mattered? Even if you saw everything, would you have changed your mind or would you still make the same choice that you did then? After all the despicable things she’s done, after all the hurtful things she’s said, the fact that she’s still being given this opportunity lets me know exactly where you stand.
(Now it’s Bond’s turn to be taken aback.)
Chris Bond: Excuse me?
Emily Carter: At this point, it’s clear that the rumors swirling around here are true. You’ve got a thing for the Baroness and she’s using her flirtatious ways to get what she wants. It’s the only logical explanation as to why you continue to turn your head whenever she pulls her latest stunt.
Chris Bond: That’s enough, Ms. Carter!
Emily Carter: Bu-
(Bond puts his hand up.)
Chris Bond: No! I think I’ve heard just about enough out of you today!
(Emily slowly unfolds her arms as she lowers her head.)
Chris Bond: Now I’ve had to deal with all sorts of false accusations from two bitter trainees before. That was bad enough. But I’m not about to sit here and tolerate this level of disrespect from you. Let me make something perfectly clear to you, Ms. Carter. I can’t please everyone. My decisions won’t always be popular. But from the very first day that this school opened, I’ve been nothing but fair and unbiased towards all of the trainees here. I’ve given everyone the same opportunities. What they choose to do with them is totally up to them. At the end of the day, I have a job to do and that is to help mold the future stars of tomorrow. I simply don’t have the time or the desire to play favorites. I am offended by the fact that you’ve come into my office and insinuated that I have feelings for a trainee or that she’s being given special treatment. The relationship that I have with The Crimson Baroness is purely a professional one, just like my relationship with you and everyone else here. If you’ve got a problem with her, then settle it in the ring, not backstage.
(Emily keeps her head held down as she begins to frown. It was bad enough that she had to deal with the Crimson Baroness’ digs about “assaulting” her backstage. But to hear Bond say the same? That one was going to hurt for a while.)
Chris Bond: Before you’re dismissed, you should know that in a few weeks time, you’re going to be in a match against another trainee that’s tried to run my name through the mud - Liesl Albrecht. Liesl might be too far gone. But there’s still time for you to change your ways.
(Bond sighs as he continues to speak to Emily.)
Chris Bond: I’m really disappointed in your behavior today. I had high hopes for you, Ms. Carter. I still do. But your attitude needs some serious work. Some serious work. I just hope that at some point, you take the time to really think over your actions from today. Now, you’re dismissed.
(Bond motions towards the door, giving Emily the cue to leave. The dejected trainee slinks out of the room, leaving the door open. As Emily walks away, The Crimson Baroness appears from around the corner. That arrogant smirk of hers is on fill display. She then looks around. Once TCB sees that the coast is clear, she heads into the office and closes the door behind her.)
“... someone looks a little stressed. Anything I can do to help?”
