"The tree isn't shelter."
Nest ponders, leaning against the trunk of the tree. He was never good at hide and go seek.
"There's been some obstacles I had to overcome in my time here in the Lion's Den. Not once have I backed down from a challenge no matter how much I feared deep down that I wouldn't be good enough to overtake them." Nest chuckles. "Well I've beaten the badasses, the princesses and little chickadees in between. After all, I wouldn't be the Apex Champion if that wasn't the case. I'd be right where I was four months ago...."
"A nothing going nowhere fast. I accepted that I wasn't the man that would be putting the plaques on the mantle." Nest reminisces to his youth where his parents would berate him for bad grades and general mischief. He was told to find a good trade and like it because it's all he would be doing for the rest of his life. "I was only the man that scared the crows away. They needed a protector for their field and I was the only one who didn't have anything else going for himself... so they used me."
Nest looks down, slightly rocking back and forth. "But one thing they never did was break me. Lion's Den helped me pick up the pieces of my spirit and it's given me the willpower I needed to accomplish so much in so very little amount of time. However while it's safe to say that at this point, I've beaten many men..."
Nest tilts his head.
"This opponent is no man. We can agree that Nem is a monster. You don't look like the world. There's little human emotion in your eyes." Nest strokes his beard. "When I look at Nem I see everything but a man, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. We all know you're something out of this world. You've proven that you have the means to destroy everything you set your sights on. I've watched you pick men to pieces, and I've seen the trembling each of your opponents do when in your presence. I just hope that's not something you've gotten used to."
Nest chuckles.
"You'd be a fool to grow accustomed to your dominance, especially since you've yet to put that to the test against me. The Apex. The champion. I don't fear you Nem. I don't fear what you're capable of, and that isn't because I see through you. I just believe in REAL monsters. Monsters who strike at will. Nem, you're quite the monster...but you're on a very tight leash." Nest grins, tugging away at the branch above his head. "Ricky Oswego is the man with the finger on the trigger. Ricky's the one I need to watch, which makes this challenge different. Nem isn't much without the direction of brother bear and I don't believe I signed up for a handicap match. So if Nem wants to step into my nest and try his hand against the champion, he will have to do so on his own accord. This trip I'm taking Nem on won't be the excursions he's used to. No permission slips. No chaperones. Let's see if brother bear can let go of your hand this week since it's obvious you don't have the will to snatch it away on your own. I want to see if we can take each other to the limit...without outside variables."
Nest leans his head against the tree. "Not that those can't be taken care of as well, but still."
