'Everyone suffers defeat at one point or another. There is no shame in it, provided one has tried their hardest. What distinguishes a truly well-bred person is their ability to take defeat gracefully and use it as a learning experience.'
These words, which open the latest LDFC.com video, are spoken by up-and-coming wrestler and impeccably proper British export Katherine Kensington. Seen sitting on her own in precisely the kind of neatly-appointed studio apartment a young couple would settle in, the Brit allows a slight grin to broach her lips as she continues:
'That is what my father makes a point of imparting to me whenever I happen to suffer defeat in any competitive endeavour – such as a few days ago, after my bout at Lion's Den's New Generation event. I was in floods when I rang him - and rather undignified, I'm afraid – but Daddy, gem of a man that he is, had nothing but encouraging words, as well as a reminder that a proper young lady knows how to take defeat in stride. He was right, of course – it is no use crying over spilt milk, is it, really? I was predictably outmatched, and Mr. Butcher took advantage. Congratulations are in order for both his win and his newly-acquired contendership...but also a firm scolding for nearly displacing my jaw!'
The young wrestler draws a hand to her left cheek, smirking sadly as she rubs the area Butcher struck with his lariat.
'All that is behind us, however. It is not good form for a well-mannered lady to hold grudges, therefore I shan't. Best of luck for your upcoming bout, Mr. Butcher!'
Katie smiles brightly, her social grace instinctively superseding any other feelings, before proceeding:
'As for little Katie, she has a new challenge ahead of her. One Mr. Shintaro Majima, a Japanese grappler for whom this will be the inaugural bout! Terribly exciting! Welcome to Lion's Den!'
Another warm smile as the Brit admits:
'Now, I must confess to not being overly familiar with the Japanese style of grappling. I suppose that is what Google is there for, though, isn't it?'
Katie gives a musical giggle, pushing her hair back from her face, before her attention is suddenly drawn by Johnny Ajax's appearance in the background of the shot. The Brit's boyfriend and independent wrestling superstar gives the camera a small wave as he begins to unpack groceries.
'Darling! Perfect timing!' Katherine chirrups. 'I had only just mentioned facing a Japanese grappler this coming week! You have experience competing there, don't you? Perhaps you might give me a few pointers...?'
Johnny grins. 'Well, for one, they hit really hard...'
This information brings a concerned look to Katie's features. '...do they? Oh dear...'
Ajax laughs. 'Yeah. But you're a wrestler, babe. You knew what you were getting into when you started training...'
'...I suppose I did', Katherine admits, turning to give the camera a comical grimace. 'Oh dear...I probably ought to go prepare for all these hard hits, oughtn't I?'
The Brit giggles briefly before concluding:
'Mr. Majima, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Lion's Den. I hope we can have a fair and competitive bout in Gibsonville. I must warn you, however - I shall be looking to atone for my defeat at New Generation. And having now had experience with male opponents and how hard they can strike...'
Katie grins as she clutches her jaw again.
'...I can't help but think things shan't be quite so traumatising the second time around.'
One final smile, some additional good luck wishes, and the video cuts to black.
