It has been a long night in former CWC World Champion Tyler Graves’ wrestling school and training facility aptly named Slaughterhouse. This newly-built school for aspiring grapplers is situated just outside Chicago. This is where Graves and his co-trainer, the same who molded him to become a professional wrestler himself, Oliver Gray, break apart and torture those who think they are tough enough to be in this grueling and roughneck sport of ours. So far, Slaughterhouse hasn’t produced anyone yet but there are a lot of students enlisted here that has potential to be the next superstars in this sport.
For the past few days, the Slaughterhouse has been both my haven and my torture chamber. After Kevin Hill announced the card for UWL’s next show “Wrestlefest II” in which where I’m set to defend my UWL International title, I reached out to Tyler Graves to help me take my game to another level and help me prepare for this huge showdown against reigning North Atlantic Wrestling Champion Gunner Hughes. Granted, I’ve been in some huge matches before and I’ve faced more experienced and talented wrestlers than Gunner Hughes and I’ve been in far more high stakes matches, I want to continue to evolve my game and the only way to do that is go outside the box and learn from as much as possible from people who had been there and done stuff in this sport.
So that’s what I’ve been doing this past few days. I’ve somewhat distanced myself from the world and just focus all my attention and energy in learning from Graves. For the past few days, he put me through the grind. We trained everyday from 6 am up to 6 pm. We did cardio, he taught me new techniques, we studied films, we sparred hard to really prepare me for my upcoming title defense. And like a sponge, I’ve absorbed and took in everything that he taught me. And for that I think, I’m ready to get into that UWL ring and meet Gunner Hughes face to face and prove the world yet again why I am still the reigning UWL International Champion.
And right now, with everyone (with the exception of this camera guy who records and preserves some of the finest moments of this institution, whom I’ve asked to stay to help me cut my promo) gone and the place is nothing but an empty building built on dreams and blood, sweat and tears of those who wants to be the best in this sport, I sat alone in this vast darkness illuminated only by a single light shining on the center of the ring where I’m sitting. The heat in the building has been turned off and we are in the middle of a brutal Chicago winter so I’m wrapped in my hoodie with the hood pulled over my head covering my blonde-streak hair. With my hair bowed down and sat Indian style in the middle of the ring, I spoke softly but audible enough for the camera to catch.
Ryan: In a few days, I will be stepping once again inside a UWL ring to defend this…
I grabbed something beside me and held it up as high as I could so the only light I have illuminated it enough for the camera to catch. That something is none other than my UWL International title. I then slowly lifted my head up and looked at the camera, a ghastly shadow cast all over my face.
Ryan: My UWL International title. Its the first tile I’ve ever won. The first title I’ve ever successfully defended. The title that will go down as one of the most important titles I’ve ever held…
I stared at the 10 pounds of gold and leather as it gleamed in the darkness. After a couple of seconds, I lowered it down and put it back beside me. I then turned my attention back to the camera as I stared a hole into it.
Ryan: You all know the story how I’ve won this title. You’ve seen me go through two tough opponents in Jessica Harmony and Ryu Kanata to have the distinction of being crowned the FIRST EVER UWL International title.
You’ve seen how I fought so hard just to successfully defended this title against one of the toughest wrestler out there in Leon Corella. Granted, the ending was quite controversial but it wasn’t my fault. I didn’t made the call, the referee did. The referee thought that I kicked out in time so who am I to contest it? Who am I to go against the ruling of an official who didn’t see any illegal instances in the match? The important thing is defended my title successfully in the crucial first defense and that’s that.
I took a short pause as I compose my thoughts. I adjusted a little bit so I can be more comfortable. After that, I went on with my promo.
Ryan: And now as I’ve said, I am set to defend my UWL International title yet again. This time I’m stepping in the ring with the current reigning North Atlantic Wrestling Champion Gunner Hughes.
Now I’ve heard you’ve said some things about me, Gunner. I’ve heard that you’ve been questioning whether I deserve to be the International Champion not just because of what happened at the end of my match at Championship Weekend but because I’ve lost my title match at FGA’s Final Frontier and I was the first one eliminated from the Golden Dreams match at PWX’s No Limits.
That’s fine. Its not the first time someone doubted me. It’s not the first time I’ve been questioned regarding whether I deserved to be here or not. I’ve had that all my life, Gunner. I’ve been fighting that fight all my life and guess what? So far I’ve proved them wrong. And I will be more than happy to prove you and everyone wrong again at Wrestlefest II. I will be more than happy to prove myself again and show everyone why I am STILL the UWL International Champion.
I stared at the camera with a burning eyes as I can feel the blood rushed all over my veins. I had been keeping this feelings for so long that I just couldn’t take it anymore. I have proven myself time and time again and yet people seems to still question and doubt me no matter how much I show them I deserve where I am.
Ryan: Yes, I might have lost against AJ Fairchild at Final Frontier but you can’t deny the fact that I gave him one hell of a match. I gave him a hard time and I made him doubt himself to the point that he needed to cheat just to beat me… And yes I was the first person eliminated from the Golden Dreams match but we all know the level of competition in PWX is in its all-time high. Why do you think the current UWL World Champion Elijah Black chose to sign with them over the other UWL affiliated promotions? I’m sure as hell its not because they offered him cookies. Now think about that for a second…
I smirked before my demeanor changed into my usual intense one as I resumed.
Ryan: Now I’m not one to make excuses. I’ve had as much failures as I’ve had success last year. I’ve been hit or miss as the fans would say but there’s one thing I have consistently done and that is perform well in a UWL ring. I may have fucked up in my home promotions but when it comes to a UWL ring, I deliver. I have consistently outperformed and outworked EVERY opponent Kevin Hill had put in front of me inside that UWL ring and this Sunday wouldn’t be any different, Gunner.
You can doubt my abilities all you want… You can question whether I deserve this title or not… Because quite frankly? I don’t care. Once we step into that ring, I will make you realize that you shouldn’t have doubted my abilities… When we step into that ring, I will make you think about why you ever questioned whether I deserve this title or not… When we step into that ring this Sunday at Wrestlefest II, I will make you realize that you shouldn’t have taken me lightly… Because just like what I did at Championship Weekend, I will walk in as the International Champion… And I will walk out STILL the International Champion…
I took a paused as I smirked to the camera yet again.
Ryan: And all that doubt you have towards me, you will focus that on yourself. It’ll make you question whether you really are the dominant NAW Champion that you think are…
… Or just a hype that you’ve bought totally into.
I slowly stood up from where I’m sitting and dusted myself. I took a last look at the camera and spat out my parting words.
Ryan: I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
I turned around and walked towards the ropes and exited the ring. I walked away from the ring and disappeared in the dark leaving the camera guy in the dimly-lit training area.
