A NIGHT CLUB IN DOWNTOWN ELIZABETH, PA - 2035 (8:35pm)
Aki, calm down. Remember, this is a night off. You've got some time to relax before the Supershow. Just enjoy yourself!
Easier said than done, Sash. I'll try, but no guarantees.
Sitting at a high top table at a club in Elizabeth, PA, Akrista O'Hare and her friend Sasha are having drinks. In the background, there are some people dancing on the floor as hard rock from the mid-90's pumps through the speaker system. The two friends are silent for a moment, engaged in a little people-watching. One of the guys on the dancefloor clears out a little space for himself and begins breakdancing. He's pretty good, and as he drops down then twists up into a headspin, Aki's face breaks into a smile and applauds softly.
Sasha: See? Not so hard, is it? A toast, to having a good time with good friends!
The two clink glasses, the current song fades out, and a new one kicks in. Akrista really perks up when she recognizes it as "Debaser" by Pixies. Her smile grows wider, and she closes her eyes as she listens. All of a sudden Sasha yanks her out of the chair and drags Aki over to the dance floor. Despite half-hearted protests, Akrista accepts the inevitable, and when the two are on the floor, she gives Sasha a playful punch on the shoulder as the techie grins and begins to dance.
Akrista: You know, I've never really thought of this as a dancing song, but I guess I was wrong. Heh. Hey, you're pretty good!
Sasha: Why thank you! Now how 'bout you shut up and join me, Miz Gray Angel? I bet you've got some moves yourself.
With a chuckle, Akrista shakes her head, but before she can actually say no, Sasha has grabbed her hand and leads the way into a high-speed waltz of sorts. And while one would normally agree with Akrista's assesment of Debaser as "not a dancing song", the two women actually manage to make it work, more or less. The crowd watching explodes into cheers of appreciation, and the DJ, watching the scene, grins, and cross-fades into "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers. Now Akrista takes the lead, belying her earlier denial of dancing ability, as the two spind and whirl across the floor. At the end of the song, Aki and Sasha go back to their table and sit down, giving little bows to their audience and grinning like idiots.
Akrista: Alright, alright, you win, Sasha! I'm having a good time. Wipe that smirk of your face. Where did you learn to dance?
Sasha: Well, my parents insisted on it when I was little, and I actually enjoyed it a lot. In my free time I try to find places that have ballroom dancing lessons. An ex of mine, she really enjoyed swing dancing, so I picked that up too. It's just a great way for me to blow off steam. Clearly you've had a few lessons yourself, so don't play coy.
Akrista: A few, yeah. You are just full of surprises, Sasha Voronsky. I'm happy we met. So, tell me more about your pre-FGA life. I'm intrigued!
Sasha: Well, I don't think I'm that intriguing, but thank you for the complement! I was born in Saint Petersburg...Russia, not Florida. Heh. We moved to New York when I was 4, Mom, Dad, my older brother Arkady and myself. Arkady works on Wall Street. He's always been good with numbers. Me, not so much. Dad was a professor at NYU, mom stayed at home and took care of us when we were growing up. After high school, I went to the University of Chicago and got my B.A. in Cinema and Media Studies. That's how I got involved in videography.
Akrista: Wicked! But how did you get involved with the FGA, and wrestling? You told me you didn't know a lot of women who were interested in it when you were growing up, so what's your story?
Sasha grins, but doesn't answer. Instead, she takes Akrista by the hand and back on to the dance floor. The DJ has switched up the music big time, and conveniently enough, "Zoot Suit Riot" by The Cherry Poppin' Daddies is the first song in his new set. The Gray Angel looks bemused, and more than a little lost, having no idea how to swing dance, but Sasha happily shows her as the night off rolls on...
