Early 2018, West Palm Beach, FL
Blue Sky Resort
The scene fades into a sky view of the Blue Sky Resort, the rehab home of the man named, Ashton Vail, for six months in 2018. After an ariel view, the camera pans into an open room with 7 people in chairs in a circle. It appears to be a discussion lead by one of the lead counselors at the rehab clinic. Ashton Vail is in the chair to the left of the counselor, wearing jeans and a white t-shirt.
Counselor: So everyone, we are two weeks into the program so far and I am really proud of each and every one of you so far! I promise after your stay, you will all feel like a new person again.
The counselor reaches into his bag and grabs a pen and paper.
Counselor: So to begin today, we are going to delete the negative influences in our lives. Everyone who hurt you, manipulated you, and who did not believe in you should be on this list. Don’t let these bad influences ruin your life anymore. So let’s take a few minutes to think of these influences and write them on your pads under your chair.
Everyone grabs a pen and pad from under their chair. The camera zooms into Ashton's pad as he starts writing. We see the following names:
Gary Matt
Vanilla Skyy
Typhoid Mary
Cindy Todd
Malcom Cross
Timothy Myers
Leon Lightning
The Chase Family
The Street Family
Standing Room Only
Gavin Taylor
From his past wrestling promotions, Ashton writes all of these names he has encountered, these names leaving bad memories attached. Ashton starts writing again but shakes his head. The counselor next to him notices him.
Counselor: Ashton? How is your list going? I see you have quite a few names on here.
Ashton: I do. Too many to count actually. I was never one for making friends. I’ve made a lot of enemies along the road, especially in wrestling. These are just a handful of names, I probably have a lot more. Many did not believe in me. I won championships, proved people wrong, but still was never taken seriously.
Ashton then writes “And many more” under Taylor’s name.
Counselor: I see that others might be struggling with this exercise and since Ashton had such an easy time with this, I’d like him to go first. Please, share the Ashton Vail experience with us.
The counselor gets up and goes over to the fireplace. The fireplace is already littered with shredded paper and rips of newspaper. The counselor takes a match from his pocket and lights it on fire, throwing it in the fireplace, making a bright orange flame as the room gasps.
Counselor: We are going to be saying goodbye to our negative influences. When you have your list I want you to take a good look at it and then throw it in the fire, never allowing these names to hurt you again.
Ashton and the others nod and smile. Ashton excitedly gets up.
Ashton: I haven’t made many friends in my career. Moving from England at a young age and coming to the states wasn’t he easiest transition. I was never the best at making friends, just enemies as Ace Voltage.
So, I’m ready. These wrestlers have plagued me in the past, but I will not allow their memories and voices to affect me again.
Ashton goes over towards the fireplace and throws the pad of paper in the fire, thus burning those names from his head.
Counselor: Amazing job Ashton!
Ashton: You know what? That felt good. But here’s the thing doc.
He smirks.
Ashton: That was just one list of many that I will need to make. I want to get back to wrestling. I don’t plan on making friends when I get back, I want to be champion again. And when I do finally return some day, I’m sure I will need more than one piece of paper on a notepad to write the list of names that I will not have a positive relationship with. I have not wrestled publicly in four years, but what I do know is that I will return one day. And when I do, all of you here can say you know a world champion.
Early May, New York City
Ashton Vail’s NYC Apartment
Ashton Vail gets up from his desk in his office space. He is wearing a vintage Ace Voltage t-shirt with washed blue jeans and brown shoes. We see an FGA application sitting on the desk all filled out. The only line not filled out in the signature line. Ashton walks into the living room and we see FGA highlights from its show playing on his flat-screen TV. He watches a replay and laughs to himself.
Ashton (talking towards the screen): This will be the competition I could be facing? Piece of cake. This company should be excited to get an opportunity to sign me. Declining ratings, low revenue, and lack of star power will all be solved, once they sign Ace Voltage. Assuming I do send in the application.
He walks back into his office and picks up the application. He prints Ace Voltage, not Ashton Vail, on the bottom of the page, but doesn't sign it yet as he is unsure of this commitment for the time being. He puts the application down on his desk, next to a picture of his late mother and he smiles.
He walks back out into the living room and over to his trophy case. A few championships he has won from past promotions appear in shiny glass cases. He stares at them and points to them as he starts talking.
Ace: People would always tell me I talk to much. Or I don’t back up my words. But, I’ve always had the hardware to back it up. I’ve been a world heavyweight champion and a tag team champion. I can do it all. But, I know I will need some more glass cases for the future.
I’ve had a long road back and I don’t intend to get stopped along my latest journey. All you FGA wrestlers can claim you’re the best. You can tweet out your accomplishments and pander to your fans. But, it’s time to shake FGA up a bit. Reporters, get your microphones ready. Journalists, get your pens ready. When Ace Voltage comes to FGA, you will all want to write the first press release about it.
Ace picks up a pen and signs the bottom of the FGA application.
Ace: And there it is. My official letter of intent to sign with Frontier Grappling Arts. I expect this to be in the news as soon as possible.
He laughs.
Ace: I don’t care whether they put me in a tag team or keep me by myself. I don’t care if the fans like me or not. I just want my chance. I want to show FGA and the world that I was never a fluke. I want to prove my doubters wrong and bring back more titles to this AMAZING apartment. Not that any of the gross FGA fans could afford this place.
I am not a joke. I am not a nobody. You may not know me now, but you will soon enough. This pathetic and JOKE of a roster in FGA will know who Ace Voltage is and why I AM the MAIN EVENT.
You’re welcome
He winks as the screen fades to black. We see a graphic that says:
