OFF - CAMERA
Scene: A training center / gym...mirrors align one of the walls and a multitude of workout stations are situated around the room. In the center is a big wrestling ring where we find Matt Summers running the ropes while Chaz Holiday is standing on the outside with a whistle hanging around his neck.
Chaz blows the whistle and Matt stops running. He heads over to the corner to take a quick break.
Chaz: Alright. That’s enough standing around. Back to it then.
Matt runs to the opposite corner, steps up on the bottom turnbuckle and springs backwards. This goes on and on for several minutes with Matt Summers hitting each corner five times before moving to the next one and the one after that.
Now we see Matt outside of the building running in place.
Summers hits the ground and jumps back up to run in place some more.
Matt Summers’ t-shirt is soaked with sweat as he is now laying on the ground for a circuit of sit-ups.
Chaz: Twenty more. Show me how much you want this. How much do you need this, Matt?
More situps from Matt Summers as he grunts with each one.
We’re back inside the training center and Matt Summers is throwing a medicine ball over the ropes of the ring. He then grabs another one from a pile behind him and throws that one over. This continues for a few minutes.
Matt stops and heads out of the ring to catch his breath. He grabs a bottle of water from a bench off to his right and drinks from it. Chaz Holiday walks over and tosses a towel at him.
Chaz: I’d say that’s enough for today, wouldn’t you?
Matt pours the rest of the water over his head and uses the towel to wipe the sweat from his hair and face.
Matt: Sheesh...If I knew you were going to run me through the ringer our first session, I would’ve came better prepared.
Chaz: I’m a big believer in go hard or go home. You need to be ready to go full speed with so many competitors. Plus, you’re a great athlete so I know you can handle it.
Matt: Well thank you for that. Endurance is certainly going to be a big factor if I’m expected to last through seven other participants at International Incident.
Chaz: Not just _any_ seven other competitors. That includes me.
He smirks, as he flashes a wink.
Matt: Of course I understand that, Chaz. But you know just as much as the next person that your injuries from days long past do give you a bit of a disadvantage. I mean they don’t call it a “handicap” for nothing.
Chaz: Don’t worry about my past injuries right now. Save that for when you’re studying your opponents and breaking them down. Right now, your only focus is on yourself.
Matt: Sure thing. But how about you stop taking it easy on me and show me some real tricks of the trade?
And with that, Matt climbs back into the ring. He raises a hand up in the air and gestures as if he is ringing a bell.
Matt: Ding...ding.
Chaz climbs inside and they start to circle off.
ON-CAMERA
We see the same gymnasium as before filled with speed bags, punching bags, and a wrestling ring dead center. Matt Summers steps in front of the camera, sweat pouring off of his head from the workout and training session he just endured with Chaz Holiday. He’s wearing an FGA Proud t-shirt and grey shorts.
Matt Summers: February Twenty-Second...London, England...my second time EVER across the Atlantic. And there’s no better reason to make the trip overseas as FGA will crown its FIRST Mid-Atlantic Legacy champion at International Incident. Seven willing competitors in a battle royal alongside yours truly. A one in eight chance of making history.
He jumps up and down, sweat flying off of his body.
Summers: Oh man...I can already feel the pressure.
He stops jumping and rubs his face.
Summers: Now I’ll be the first to say that there are a few people in this match that I have tons of respect for... namely my mentor, Chaz Holiday and the lovely Jaxie Wyatt.
Chaz and I...well, we’ve already spoken about this match in detail. We both know what’s at stakes and have both agreed should it come down to the two of us left in the ring at the end, then no quarter will be spared. Sure, he may be my trainer but a man would have to possess pure stupidity to show all of his cards to one of his opponents. So Chaz Holiday, never take my polite demeanor as a sign of weakness. And thanks for the words of wisdom to get me through the day.
The same goes for Jaxie. An outstanding wrestler who deserves this opportunity as much as I do. But Jax, you’ve had your moments of glory and a string of wins to show for yourself while me...well, I’m still making my name in this company. Now, I’m not asking for a handout or an easy victory. That’s not how I do business….never have...never will. All I’m saying is that my drive for a win, not to mention some much needed notoriety in this company, may be more than you can handle little lady.
As I always say, it’s nothing personal...only business. The three of us were placed in this match for the same purpose. To create our own legacies in FGA starting with the distinction of holding the Mid-Atlantic title as our first true accolade in this company.
But then you have a man like Joshua Black involved. A snake in the grass who will do pretty much anything and everything to get ahead in this business. A man who wants to create his legacy as a liar and a cheat.
Matt looks into the camera as he sends his message to Joshua Black.
Summers: Josh….we’ve already danced once before and you got the better of me. Of course we all know the manner you did so was unscrupulous to say the least. So one has to wonder how will your buddy Windham and your tramp Heather handle watching you get sent flying over the top rope. I personally think it may be hard to swallow...especially when I intend to send your body crashing into them full-force.
Summers smirks at the thought of what he would like to do to Joshua Black.
Summers: Then there’s Jason Richards. A man so similar to Joshua Black in many ways. A man who wanted so badly to create a name for himself and start up a legacy on the fast track that he sold his soul to the devil within The Church of The Beyond. And look where it got you, Jason. All that jumping the gun ended up putting you on your back with your old buddies walking out the door without a care in the world for you. You, my friend, are the epitome of what happens when you don’t put the work in first. And in the battle royal, you will fall victim to those who HAVE, whether it be me, Chaz, or Jaxie. It doesn’t matter...just as long as you get what you deserve and nothing more.
Matt looks up as he gathers his next thoughts.
Summers: Now as important as this may be to me, Chaz and Jaxie...there’s some in this match who have seen the top of the mountain and developed quite a run so far in this company in the process. Guys like Jared James, Johnny Karma, and Alistair Mangold. Guys who have built their legacies already. Guys who may not need the Mid-Atlantic title as much as the rest of us.
I mean look at Johnny Karma for example..former Pride champion...a man who held the number two title in this company at one time yet was never able to retain it long enough to be granted a shot at the FGA Championship. And now, he’s forcibly being relegated to compete for the tertiary gold in this company instead of getting a rematch for his secondary accolade.
He pauses and thinks to himself.
Summers: On second thought, that doesn’t sound like much of a legacy after all. Welcome to the match, Johnny.
Then we have Alistair Mangold...he can lay claim to his numerous titles in LAWA but that doesn’t make a legacy. His legacy is and always will be defined by his time here in FGA. HIs loss to the current FGA champion back when he was a no-name working dark matches. Being taken out of this company way too soon by The Murder. All truly unfortunate events. And since he’s returned from that injury, what can he TRULY say for himself other than the moniker of “God Among Men”? Alistair, you’ve lost more matches than you’ve won...not counting the forfeiture by Nate Adams the first time you two were meant to square of. Is THIS the legacy you want to leave?
Another pause.
Summers: So glad you can join us, Alistair.
As a matter of fact, out of the eight people in this contest...I can only think of one person who can REALLY lay claim to the word “legacy”. And that’s Jared James...a name that harkens back to the infant days of FGA. A man who wrestled on the very first edition of Wednesday Weekly Combat. He’s faced them all. So I ask myself, Jared...why do you need this more than me? Why are you even IN this match?
And then it made perfect sense when you think about the word “legacy”.
He pulls a piece of paper out of his pocket.
Summers: The dictionary defines it as “anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor”.
He folds the paper up.
Summers: Jared, you’re in this battle royal for one purpose only - to be that predecessor to hand the Mid-Atlantic title down to me. To be the man to witness as the new breed take FGA into a new era.
So I only have one piece of advice for you for February Twenty-Second...
Do your job….and do it well.
And fade.
