**OFF CAMERA**
Matt Summers sits in front of a computer, a desk lamp illuminating the keyboard in front of him and a can of Coke sitting nearby. On the screen looks to be a list of received emails, unread though as marked by their bold status. Summers stares at the screen and moves his mouse over an email from "The Next Big Thing". He clicks on it and a new window opens displaying the contents of the e-mail. His eyes scan across the screen. Suddenly, Matt pushes backwards in his chair and throws his hands in the air.
Matt Summers
Oh...Come on. You have GOT to be kidding me.
He looks at the screen once more before grabbing the Coke can and tossing it across the room. It hits a door causing its contents to splatter upon the wood as well as the floor. The door slams open and standing in the doorway is Joey Gallo, Matt's roommate and confidant.
Joey Gallo
What the fuck is goin' on here?
Matt grabs a towel from the table the computer is on and goes to wipe up the mess the Coke has made.
Matt
Sorry about the mess, Joey. Just got some pretty screwed up news is all.
Joey
Really? Anyone I know?
Matt
No…no. Nobody's dead.
Joey
Then what's the matter?
Matt
Remember that reality show I was on? The one where the winner got a big contract with Shootfire Pro?
Joey
Uh yeah...it's all you talked about for weeks. Let me guess, you got eliminated.
Matt
Not even. Take a look.
He motions to the computer screen.
Matt
They cancelled the whole thing. Ten weeks of my life spent trying to impress the judges and it was all for nothing. All I can say for myself is I came in Fourth place.
Joey
Dude, that's not true. You were pretty damn good. At least from what I saw on TV. Editing and all.
Matt looks at him like Joey just cursed out his mother.
Joey
Besides, what does a bunch of Hollywood morons know about pro wrestling anyways?
Matt
But I was learning things. In AND out of the ring. I know I would've won the whole thing if given just the right amount of time. Now I'm left with nothing and not a clue as what am I going to do next.
Joey laughs.
Joey
Dude, you can be so dramatic sometimes. You know that? You can stand here and bitch about how everything has been taken away from you or you can listen to me for a change.
Matt
Ok. I'm all ears.
Joey slaps Matt on the chest.
Joey
You're gonna bust your butt for the next five months.
Matt
Fine. Then what?
Joey throws an arm around Matt's neck and shoulders, pulling him in tight for a side embrace.
Joey
Leave it to me, kid. I've got a few people who owe me a favor.
Matt
This better work, Joey.
Joey
I know it will.
**ON CAMERA**
We fade up to see Matt Summers standing in front of an FGA banner pinned up on the wall behind him. He's wearing a grey unzipped hooded sweatshirt with a blue shirt underneath - the Colorado flag on the front of it. His head is down for a moment before he raises it up to look into the camera. He runs his hand through his hair before speaking as he gathers his thoughts.
Matt Summers: Zero and One. With a big asterisk next to it. That's my record so far in FGA. My debut match marred with the notion that Joshua Black had to rely on both Johnny Windham AND Heather Black to distract me JUST so he can find that ONE opening he needed to pin me to the mat for a three count. So enjoy your win, Josh but always know that you made it very clear it took two men and a little lady to beat Matt Summers. A fact that has earned you zero of my respect.
Which is the complete opposite of what I have for my second opponent in FGA - Chaz Holiday.
He puts a finger up in front of him to make his point.
Matt Summers: HERE is a man who is ready to return to the ring and make a name for himself once more. A man who could've asked to face ANYONE on the FGA roster. Particularly one who DOESNT have a zero and one record.
And he points to himself with that same finger.
Matt Summers: But he chose ME for his return match. If for no other reason than he sees a man who respects those who came before him and paved the way for him to be where he's at today.
The stoic look on his face grows more serious, as if he's getting into "the zone" of some sorts.
Matt Summers: Now, Chaz…You talk about being a busy man. A man who's done a lot. Hairstylist and fashion designer to the stars. Party planner and night club owner. Manager extraordinaire. Not to mention your stints in and out of the ring and the injuries you've sustained as a result.
I know them all too well. I heard about your accomplishment as the first Male Women's Champion of PWSR. And how you went on to become the No Limits Champion there as well.
He beams thinking about the titles his opponent has won, which is more than can be said for himself.
Matt Summers: But that's not even the best part, is it Chaz? You somehow put hatred aside and became one half of the PWSi Tag Champs with Drake DeMarco.
He rubs down on his stubbly chin.
Matt Summers: Sharing gold with an arch rival? That says a lot about you. It shows just how much you are willing to give to this sport and for the accolades that come with it. And that reason ALONE is why I agreed to this match. Because if i'm EVER going to learn and become a better in-ring performer, who BETTER to school me than a man with FOUR straight years of experience over me.
Chaz… I certainly have not seen the amount of time in the ring or on the road that you have. But my beginnings…just like yours once were, they're just as humble as is my training.
All I can TRULY lay claim to is right here behind me.
He points the FGA banner on the wall.
Matt Summers: And like that logo depicts, I too am a lion. A young one at that. February 1st…Boston, MA… this may not be an AFC Championship game but I'm still bringing my Denver pride with me. And after the Orange Crush, you and Tom Brady are going to feel the same exact way.
Disappointed and defeated.
Another pause and a brush of the hair.
Matt Summers: In football, it's about the whole team and its unified abilities. But in wrestling…two men enter…only one man can leave with his hand raised high. This match…this win…it's just something that I NEED right now. Call it a proving ground… to myself, my colleagues in the locker room, and most of all to my elders such as yourself.
And by night's end, the name Matt Summers will no longer be synonymous with the word "loser". Chaz, when that second bell rings, know that the respect between us will always be there.
This is nothing personal…just business. A man of your stature has to understand that.
Summers walks over to the camera and hits a button as the scene cuts to black.
